I decided to make a thread about Firefox for my 1000th post. :P

Firefox is just great, you can style everything.. and I mean everything

You can style the browser to make it the way you like it to be. I just wanted to post some screenshots from my current Firefox.

This picture shows the webpage of the image search results. When I hover my mouse over a picture I get a preview. Also when I click on a image, I directly go to the image, and not the website first.

This is my Firefox Menu. As you can see its one button now, and that I used a picture as a background. I can also put another picture there, but now I just used some fairy/butterfly girl.

Foxsaver is just a screensaver for Firefox. You set a map with picture, and when you don't use your firefox for lets say 1 minute, you get a screensaver from your favorite pictures. This extension for firefox isn't really useful. I mean, you want to use firefox right? Ya, but, its nice and you can manualy turn it on if you just want to see some pictures.

My Downloadbar is blue since you can adjust the colors that matches the speed of which it is downloading.
My colors:
0 - 200 KB/sec = yellow
200 - 400 KB/sec = green
400 - 600 KB/sec = red
More than 600 KB/sec = blue

Some text in the screenshots are Dutch but you will get the point :D

I've always liked firefox but I've never bothered to explore the options like that; I just downloaded the portable version of firefox 3 though and I'm happy. Is it just me or is it kinda funny that the firefox's spell check says "firefox" isn't a word

I prefer firefox over IE lol, kinda obvious. But I started exploring all options. Downloaded a bunch ('a lot' -.-) of addons. I think its cool that you can change the looks/layout of any webpage you desire :D

And instead of just a lame, white, new tab page, you can put there whatever lol. Its not really important to have it, but still, I like it ^^

I still use firefox 2, as in those screenshots of mine. But thats because not all addons I use are firefox 3 compatible yet.

And the theme you use, I used it I think. Don't remember the name, but I like mine better now :P Is it just me or is your font size a little big?

Why you can't tell? :P And I have about 40 addons in total lol. But the most important to get the webpage changes is "Stylish" You can load scripts in those, and adjust them yourself. I can post a complete list later, but its on my external hard drive, and I'm using IE now.

Don't worry. I didn't type all of that. I only translated the Dutch titles to English. MR Tech Toolkit is a extension to manage your extensions.. Yeah, sounds useless, but it isn't. https://addons.mozilla.org/nl/firefox/addon/421

I will uninstall some addons later, since some are pretty useless or never been used by me. Like Save Flash Movie, IE TAB, TinyUrl Creator, and probably some more.

Yeah, its a big list. But like I said; The plugins doesn't need to be installed manualy, they just come with software on your computer. If I open the addons list, I can't see those :P But they come in handy to play some files on the internet, like flash or movies (avi, rmvb or idk)

And in my addons list you can see "AVG Safe Search 8.0". I didn't install that, but I have AVG anti-virus, so automatically got in to firefox :P. I only got it when I am on my computer, since my firefox is on a external hard drive. When at another computer without AVG anti-virus, I don't have the AVG Safe Search 8.0 .. ^^

And some of the extensions aren't as useful as most. Thats why I will uninstall a few later.

To edit Google to your likes, you need CustomizeGoogle 0.72. (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/743) With that extension you can block like ads and spam. You can also let it change the links to images so you directly go to the image when clicked.

To get the preview you need the Greasemonkey extension. (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748) Its like the Stylish one, but .. different. You can also load scripts in Greasemonkey. To get the previews to google images you need Googlenlarge (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/7863)
On the site I gave in some back for scripts to load in Stylish, can also be found Greasemonkey scripts.

As you can see in my extension list, I already have your theme. But I don't use it at the moment. The theme I use now, as in the screenshot is: Vista Black 1.0 0.4

I didn't knew that trick. I will try it out. It could come in handy.

The theme I'm using in Firefox is called NASA Night Launch, I love it and it fits perfectly with the Royal Zune theme I use with Win XP.

My Portal is a live webpage from your bookmarks, so you can just remove all toolbars and open the My Portal page. I set it as my homepage :)

And you should try PicLens (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5579) That one is also on my list. Just check my list for more haha :P

But Piclens is awesome ... I can't even explain it. Go to that webpage, look at the picture, read the description and download it lol. Its a new way of watching pictures from Yahoo, Google, DeviantArt and even watch movies from Youtube ;D

But I have some sort of the same problem. I use IE now and I can see almost all Japanese characters. Only at this site (http://www.manythings.org/q/kana.php?u=hiragana), where I
learn Japanese are some characters I can't see. It always worked, and on my fathers laptop it does. I don't know how to fix it. I don't know why you only see ? ?? though.

Then I checked "Install support for east asian characters" or something (I got a swedish XP, so =P )
Then I inserted the Win XP CD and a moment later it was all good ^^

But I had to reboot my computer =(

OK. About Firefox. One particular extension which I like is the Download Statusbar (https://addons.mozilla.org/nl/firefox/addon/26) Its nice and small, but it has more useful features than the standard download window.

OK. Then I have to get the CD somewhere. I don't think that would be a problem. :)

And my name is in Katakana. Most Japanese names are written in Hiragana or Kanji. Katakana is mostly used to write English words or names. But that doesn't mean that Japanese names can't have Katakana. Most names in Anime are written in Katakana, like Naruto (???)

??? = Maruko. The Japanese way of writing Marco. ? = Kun. And its a Kanji symbol.

To get on-topic (:P) Do you like the Download Statusbar? I do since its more compact than the standard download window.

Yeah, there are pretty much things to download. I use Portable Firefox, on my portable hard drive so I can use it at school, and everywhere. Its still Firefox 2 now, although I have Portable Firefox 3 already, with most of my extensions from Firefox 2 already installed. But still a few are not compatible yet.. gotta wait for those..

I agree, using Firefox is way better. And for me way cooler. Sites I often use look different :)

So when you restart the computer, all installed items are gone. The drive is like the image again. You can only save some items like; schoolwork :P

that's like my school, they check student servers and the computers reset themselves, we got around it by saving things like games(it was mostly games, at least 20 people got suspended for saving games to their sever) to an elementary school sever they never caught on but if they had they'd only be able to delete it; they coudn't track it back to us. Good thing all the schools in the district were on the same network.

We can only save items in "My Documents" and on your desktop. In one class we are just allowed to play games from the teacher so we had some bunch (portable) in the My Documents folder. Games like: Counter Strike, Unreal Tournament. That kinda stuff. But they can't track who put it there :P

I tried them, but that is not what I want. The first one for Internet Explorer doesn't work. I get an error which is either Japanese or a lot of ?? But all it does is change your .NET Framework. So I think it will change your IE to a Japanese version, which is not what I want.

Same with Firefox. That link gives you a portable edition from a Japanese Firefox.
But what I want is to just read all Japanese text in your browser. To do that I need to do what Filleraol said, but don't got the CD -.-

Nah, its ok. Because when I open my portable firefox on my father laptop it does work. So the solution is; borrow that win xp cd... or download it :D

Nope. I followed the instructions as Microsoft tells you:

But even there it says: "You will prompted to insert the Windows CD-ROM"

And I tried, and yes, it asked for the CD-ROM -.-

Ya, I want to check out the links :) And I don't have a bootlegged copy of XP. My friend gave this computer to me, and he got it from his parents which work at a school. And that school gave their computers away since they got new onces. And since its illegal for schools to have illegal stuff on their computers, I assume its legal. If they do have illegal software, they can pay the price, if they are checked on. But yeah.. no CD. Maybe my friend got it.. idk

Thanks for the links, but the first link is for the Microsoft Office pack. So for Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, etc.

The second link is to change you GUI in another language. The Vista link is for changing you Vista to another language + some updates for software/hardware (SP1)

So I just need that CD :P
