I am out of my comedy streak now, and was wondering if you guys knew any anime that had a sci fi theme?

too lazy to remember the names of every one I have seen to date, so just rattle off all the ones you know and I will tell you if I have seen it or not. Shout find one I haven't seen quickly enough.

Dennou Coil is good stuff, though not everyone likes it, cause it's a story about a bunch of kids.
Also Pale Cocoon - 1ep OVA - is a nice watch.
I won't even mention any of the Ghost in the Shell stuff, cause if you're a sci-fi fan you've seen it 5 times already.

Ill look take a look at the coil one, and outlaw star though. I saw a few episodes of ergo proxy, and was pretty confused by it, does it get better in the later episodes?

It does only to a certain point. It pretty darn confusing and slow paced all the way through.
As to your Pale Cocoon question - am not sure myself. But I guess it was supposed to be a bit confusing.

I am up to the part in ergo proxy when the first infected thing starts killing people. Is it ever explained why they just behaved so matter of factly about it?

Yes, it is explained what the proxies (that's what they're called) are, but it's not in one place - the info is given to the viewer throughout the show.
