(long version first, short version at bottom)
1st problem: Error paging into unflaged area. computer crashes
1st solution: restarts fine, check for bad RAM, adjusting paging file size, and grab important things off computer to external harddrive.
it worked for about 10 minutes
2nd problem: As above, but only restarts in safe mode.
2nd Solution: get windows xp disk and do a system restore from it.
if only it was that easy
3rd problem: system restore claims i have no hard drive
3rd solution: restart computer and repeat, same result, restart and and try for clean xp install.
here's where things get weird...
Computer starts up normally, nothing has been fixes, computer appears to be running scan-disk just fine... results unsure...
Short version: Computer has error, attempts to fix error fails, computer decides its a different error, attempts to fix fail again, computer decides its fine and runs... WTF?
EDIT/UPDATE: well... its working perfectly fine now... i'm grabbing other pieces of important dross off it now onto my external. Today's been weird...
EDIT/UPDATE 2: i got the important stuff off, sat down watched to vid in the "Haruri Hell" thread... moved my mouse to do something and the computer crashed again with the original problem... attempting to fix again now... don't you love the RT updates... i think i might need a new laptop...

your computer is messing with your head
and it seems to be enjoying it
you have to get rid of it FAST
No, but seriously....is your motherboard feeling alright?
scanned for viruses and stuff like that?

Hmm, sounds like a Harddrive problem to me; if it were the mobo the PC wouldn't boot up at all.
If you can, get another HDD and install XP on it, you don't need to activate it - this is only to test whether or not the original HDD is the problem. Replace the original HDD with your test HDD and boot from that. If it works with no problem then there's a problem with the harddrive, if it doesn't then I don't know what to suggest.
P.S. any form factor HDD will do, just as long as the connections are compatible with the mobo.

What's this mouse doing here?
What's a mouse?
Where did I put that PCI-E port?

I guess i'm wrong with forum but maaaayyybe someone knows how to helo me with Asus k8v mobo. Yes, the new SATA drive doesn't seem to work and i dunno what to do. I've searched forums and many people had this problem too but i didn't find a solution. i just flashed bios, but it still doesn't work. ((((((((((((
*EDIT* Sry mobo is Asus A8V :D

Damn that board is old - it could just be that tbh.
But just in case try the old SATA drive in the same port, and if THAT doesn't work, then I either suggest a new mobo. OR a SATA PCI card - which may well be the cheaper option.

The old drive is working nice. Thaths the problem.

Did you try another SATA cable with the new HDD?

I tried but the cable doen't seem to be the root of all evil.

It's a faulty drive then, ask the vender you got it off to replace it with a working model

i checked the drive on my friend's computer and it worked fine.

How rare...:S
New mobo then? You should be able to get a reasonable one on the cheap, and DDR should work in a DDR2 slot.

I'm thinking about it now but new mobo = new CPU + new GPU + New PowerSupply cuz i have athlon 3500 + (s939), AGP8x video card and 350w power block. Suck.

In which case, you've picked a brilliant time to upgrade, there's loads of cheap parts out now.
Might I suggest:
AMD/ATi Radeon HD 4850 512MB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102775)
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115041)
2GB GeIL DDR2 PC2-6400 (800MHz) RAM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144028)
Asus P5Q (P45) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131328)
OCZ 500W PSU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341012)
All yours for under $810 - of course playing around with other parts will decrease the price but bar getting a Core i7 setup (due later this month), which will be extremely expensive from an upgrade point of view - this will do you for a good 2 years.

wow... this actually managed to spawn a psuedo-tech support thread...
i have an idea of what the problem can be with my mentally/electroniclly crazy laptop.
it's either:
A) dead/dying harddrive.
B) faulty RAM.
C) a small yet vital piece of XP got overwritten.
A & B would require actually hardware replacement and money, C just requires me to hijack a friends XP install disk and do either a system restore or clean install... I'll find out if C is the problem on Monday...

Sorry man but Intel have got the performance edge over AMD atm. That being said, AMD chips are more energy efficient, and I guess you don't need a quad core per sae, as most software can't handle more than 2 threads. That being said, I still think you should go Intel, at least, for the time being, unless of course you're not bother about performance. That said, I'll offer two solutions, one Intel, one AMD.
As for nVidia? Well their cards are more or less on par with AMD/ATi's offerings, but they tend to be more expensive and at the present time consume a lot more power underload; not including the ATi 4870x2 of course. 300W TDP...greeeeeat.
CPU: INTEL E8200 Core 2 Duo @2.66GHz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115038)
OR
AMD Athlon X2 5400B@2.8Ghz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103268)
Mobo: INTEL Asus P5K Pro (P35) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131275)
OR
AMD Gigabyte AM2 Mobo (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128333)
RAM: 2GB GeIL DDR2 RAM PC2-6400 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144028l)
PSU: 500W OCZ (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341012)
GFX: nVidia 9600GT (512MB) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133239)
Intel Cost: $476
AMD Cost: $338
The AMD solution is indeed cheaper, but I would seriously consider the Intel plaform, it'll perform better for the same amount of wattage it'll pull out the wall. Both CPUs are 65W TDP and both are Dual core. Don't be fooled by the 9600GT, it sports the same core as the 8800GT, which means its got more than enough grunt for most games. It's no Crysis beater (you certianly won't be reaching 30FPS+ on high settings) but it's a good bang for buck card.

Well...Now i'm shure with mobo at least.
P5K Pro has PCI-E x16 X2 but i don't like SLI so i'm thinking about getting a P5K-VM. And well, i'll try some INTEL stuff. :D
But is there the way i can get a s939 mobo with AGP8x gpu slot and SATA II support? :D (i think it's impossible but who knows?)
