Who said anything about praise,I've been over this before the criticing is lax at best I don't know what type of critisim you get if get an in depth reveiw of your submissions thats great but I tend to get aline of text at the best of times
I'll acknowledge that misunderstanding as my own folly.
Generally speaking. some videos are a bit easier to describe or criticize than others. That is to say, Some may find certain clips to be more memorable than others, for better or worse. If something's really good or really bad, more can be said about it. Mediocrity often yields little to no reactions from people. Of course, this is quite subjective and I haven't seen the clips in question anyway, so this comparison could prove to be invalid. Though for me personally, if I make a bland video, it will get less attention unless there's a glaring technical issue with it.


Amv hell 6 submission reply from zarks - nah i didnt really find it funny < the not criticing thats an opinion it doesn't say why he doesn't find it funny or if theres anything wrong with it.
Actually, I'd consider a brief statement of an opinion to be criticism, in these situations. I'm assuming the thing that's wrong with it is that he simply didn't find it funny.


I decided to look back at the my other submission,so far panda has given some of the criticing,It also seems there slighly more willing to dicuss fixing minor issues with what they consider to be good videos which makes sense.
Looking back through a few of mine, I'd say that Zarx and Panda are a bit even for giving actual sentences explaining there opinions on entries, though with the latter saying slightly more on average. Though for what it's worth, the former often is a bit more coherent in what he says.

but even the bad videos diserve better criticing than some of the bland comments i've been getting. I think most of the poor comments came form chewi and zuichi.


I know I keep going over this but I keep getting is that amvhell is primarly for comedy - okay then I need someone to explain the comedy value of the clannad clip set to the music kiss from a rose - I know it works and it's well made but it should be dropped going by zarxs standards well it isn't a comedy clip is it?
As we've said before, humor is quite subjective. Off the top of my head, that doesn't sound too funny, but Zarx has been known to find some strange things to be humorous. If anything, we're at his mercy here, should hope for the best, and follow his cues for what he thinks is funny. Either that, or you could simply ask him about his definition of humor.


He wasn't saying he wanted praise, he was saying that don't expect Zarx to critique you, or give you much feedback on how you could have made it better.

From what I've seen, other than the part about HD videos, the rules being used are about the same as the ones used for the first version of AMV Hell 6. (http://www.animemusicvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=105212&sid=f79df67cdd8f1d83f53a332123e34caa#p1390609") As for the two versions of your clip, you could probably put them both in the same thread, though the second version in a different post.

Regarding criticism,
I have approximately 300 different threads containing videos that I have to look at. When I watch entries, I usually sit down and do it for 1-2 hours at a time. Its a time consuming process, because there are a LOT of entries. I don't have time to sit down and write an essay on each one, especially if its not even a good video to begin with. If I've decided not to accept it, then there is really no point (from my perspective, not necessarily from your perspective) for me to go into detail about it. Wheras if I think a video could go in, then I want to give some feedback to help improve it if possible, so that the best possible work can get in.

When I don't find a video interesting, there is really usually nothing more to say, even if I wanted to.
Like... if someone submits a video of clouds flowing through the sky, what am I supposed to say to that? I can't give feedback on how to improve that, because no amount of improvement would even make it appropriate.


Also, the majority of videos are not going to get in. Them's the breaks.

One thing this Hell desperately needs is a good opening. I look back at AMV Hell 3 & 4 and I see unique openings. (I'd say 4's OP was the best)
The opening to Hell 6 seems more like an AMV with "AMV Hell 6" written at the end, rather then a proper opening sequence to set the mood for the rest of the movie.
It's been said again and again, "AMV Hell is all about comedy". Yet the current opening(Robot Carnival, Gurren Lagann) drags on and has no comedy, to say the least.

I think Zarx or SSG should rethink the opening and make something more original and fitting of the AMV Hell Genre.

Inside jokes can be awesome, and make for the funniest clips - they have the most going for them. But, the flipside is you're alienating those who don't get it. My feeling is jokes that require knowledge of the original content should be kept short - that way if people are confused/bored it's over soon.

This is why I didn't necessarily favor the Carnival Phantasm/Hercules clip. It's by far my favorite clip in the Hell 6 (and the editing was superb) - but it's also really long for someone who doesn't know Fate Stay Night. I'm laughing my ass off; others will be bored stiff. I'd rather see that one as its own video than in AMV Hell.

Personally, I prefer to shorten my clips to just the essential joke, and not try to explain stuff in the actual clip. That sentence didn't make sense. Here, I'm gonna try to explain (this probably also won't make sense), if it's a clip that requires seeing the original anime to get, I don't show the scene that you would be required to see in order to get it. Instead I just show the joke as it is, and those who've seen the original will appreciate it, and those who haven't will be curious, and look it up (hopefully). I feel that showing the scene ruins the flow of the clip, elongates it, and is unnecessary.

Its purely visual with the audio makes the joke. A guy who looks a bit like Hercules put to Hercules the cartoon theme song and then the strangeness of what's happening in the clips with syncing to the song. Makes the clip.

Another Hentalia clip, was the Canadian Idiot one. Again I know nothing, however I am left to figure out quickly he is Canadian and the stuff going on screen helps.

Hentalia clips rely deeply on insider jokes. Usually to people nationalities in it.

An Evangelion clip in this or in a Mini or 5, has Asuka pissed off and either shouting or kicking Shinji to Pinks? I am a Bitch? This is partly a play on the characters personality. However the visuals spell it out to you completely.

Even back to AMV hell 3. There is such jokes about Gendo grabbing Rei's boob. Some of the stuff works brilliantly if you know the subject, yet even if you dont its still spelled out in visuals.

As people have said here before. If a Joke needs explaining to most people, its not a good joke for something that is for everyone.

Ive seen all of Hetalia when I made my clips and I agree with matt about the German clip, it was just Germany speaking German I guess the point of the hat was to show that he was German. When I made the clips I made them so you could get the joke without having to watch the series, but I guess that wasn't the case since basically everyone hated them. I still will resubmit them (of course the Russia clips will be shorter) also when will that video guide be up and running? I want to make sure I'm doing everything right before I resubmit my clips.

Cause this is AMV hell 6 related, the problem is with Dropbox not the guide. And I followed it so there must b something else dats wrong.

I saw the same problem when I converted my videos to mp4 and uploaded it to the dropbox but then when I converted them to mkv they uploaded just fine

No I didn't. I just asked Haar whenever I had problems. He taught me everything that was in the guide and more.

I also knew a lot of the information beforehand, like "don't use youtube for video sources". It baffles me that there are people out there who actually think youtube is high quality.

well if you could find an anime that was actually uploaded at 1080p, you could conceivably make it look good by downscaling it.

Just leave it alone. When downloaded, it's no longer tilted. Don't bother screwing around with it anymore than you have to.

So I'm putting all final effort into my "Wonderful, Wonderful End of the World" clip. To say I did at least did one themed clip.

Any good freeware suggestions other than Wax? Tried it out but didn't really like it, limited file capability (had to convert all my clips and episodes to work with it) and a clunky interface.

Not going to get anything done in time anyway, waited till too late and had a death in the family recently that obviously put a damper on things.
