The correct answer was: Rewatch movies. Just today, I watched Starship Troopers again. Upon this rewatch, I realized how much I dislike the changes made from the book. I mean, it's kind of sad when the anime OVA series did a better job of adapting an American book than an American movie could. How do you translate "a Filipino guy and his friends in iron man armor shooting aliens" into "a bunch of rednecks and an ethnic sidekick or two getting into a Starcraft cluster**** with machine guns" other than using your budget as an excuse?

Oh, and I watched part of Barbarella, but got sort of bored with it.

After reading those books from the past I'm kinda seeing anime as Japan's "Selling out period" Also I've read stories of these shows (not all of them) being animated in Korean (I think some are in Japan too) sweat shops with people being locked in until they meet the quota. Maybe one day this medium can redeem itself.

It is physically impossible for an animator to make a living (i.e. can't even afford an apartment) out of their job, which is why so many juggle multiple jobs in between multiple shows. Take a gander at Bahi JD to get a visual sense of how degrading the job is. Poor guy looks twenty years older than what he is. Unfortunately, with the lack of a union and the way anime gets funded (Surprise, surprise, largely everything is an advertisement for the VN, LN, or otherwise.), it's an issue that will largely perpetuate until another economic bubble pops in one of these "otaku" industries. Only once in a blue-moon will you get an adaptation like Horizon.
A further shame is that certain pieces of **** that are incredibly out of touch with modern animation production, like Hayao Miyazaki, have the audacity to criticize these people and the entire industry despite the fact that he has largely spent most of his career working with a pretty large budget and more convenient deadlines, but I digress.
