Oh, and Magic Rocks. It is also the third most mind stimulating game on the planet. First and second place were Go and Chess. Poo, wish I could find a source... trust me, it's true! They used a scanning MRI to record brain activity while playing the games.

Back to topic: I live in Bedford, Massachusetts, US of A

For those of you that haven't heard of Massachusetts, its one of the few (if not the only) state in the union that has legalized gay marriage, and it's generally a very progressive state. It's major industries are Information Technology and Biotech.

That's an interesting state of affairs... but it's still very important to appeal anyway. What that would mean was that two out of three of the largest cites in the country will have legalized it. This would be a huge incentive for the Federal gov't to follow suit.

Also, Nyuu, for the record, I haven't misunderstand anything you've said. I don't get it with the two-party principal. It's too much like choosing either radically that, or that. No inbetween. It's not that I do not understand, but I think the written language should be seen not as a visual side of the spoken, but as a means of communication itself. The Spoken language are superior at direct communication with your immidiate surroundings, but it does not cross geographical or cultural barriers as well as the written. You could say, that the the spoken language chops a toe and queezes a heel to be efficient at daily basis.

Therefore I think one should stick to the written language for it's own virtue.

I agree, the are equally improtant, that's excactly what I meant by saying so - they complement each other for a better overall result. What I meant in the first place was, that he was writing spoken language with all it's cutting of letters and sounds.

My point was, that even though he had not yet written something, with the meaning shouded in mystery, he should value written language for being clearer in expessing your point in text. Thereby I was also implying, that he might end up in a situation, where he actually didn't get his meanig through.
I had from time to time time com across posts on this forum, where I didn't understand what was meant, because it was spoken language, that could not break the geographic and cultural barriers.

Do you know why your oil prices are so cheap compared to the rest of Europe and most of the world? It's because you're so close to Russia! There's less pipeline distance between you two, therefore you have cheaper gas... anyway, read this:

yeah, Sweden is not that "exotic" . I think Sweden is not about big beaches or great swimming places, it's more about our forests and quiet nature. I love sitting at a lake in a forest fishing with some friends, it's quiet and nice. Camping is also pretty nice here. Other than that there's nothing special about Sweden. If I want to visit a nice beach or something like that I'd go to another country. I'm the other way around: I live in Massachusetts: the beaches are beautiful, but the ocean water is 50 degrees IN JULY. It's obscene, actually. There are usually only a few days a year you can go swimming without you balls freezing off. Plus, it has to be like 90+ degrees in the air for it to be worth it. So, not many beach days at the ocean. That's why I'm lucky I live near a lake :D. 10 minute walk through the woods to a precipitous delta of sandy dirt that creates a natural wading area that goes out waaaay farther than it has any right to. And since it's a lake, it actually warms up over the summer instead of having a peak of 60 in August (the Atlantic).

I like beaches. I dislike the ocean as a general rule, though. Fresh water is so much more worth your time.

I don't live close to any good beaches, though.

gimme a sec to convert those...

Edit: converted. Yeah, that's not very fun. But hey, that's Denmark for you. National pastime is ice skating, right?

Also, does it freak you out that I'm still on after you went to sleep and woke up again? I was on through the entire night. The freaking sky is getting light where I am.

Adjacent Badger
06-15-2008, 08:32 AM
Don't convert it, that ruins the joke.

Edit: No, not really. At best, the lakes are frozen 2-3 weeks a years and there not a lot of indoor ice rinks. At winter, many of the larger cities has artifical ice rinks, though the last winter was so lukewarm, that they couldn't be kept frozen.

Oh to hell with you, i've actually bathed in a lake of 32 degrees (yes, thats already converted to fahrenheit, it's 0 degrees celsius, cause that's the lowest water ever goes while still being...water)
and the air temperature was 5 F (-15 C)) That's called winter diving in Lithuania :D You get heated up in a sauna (not the finnish one, the russian one) and then run out and take a plunge into the water (and hope not to get a cardiac arrest lol, but that's actually good for your health (the diving, no the arrest)) Ahh, when i think of that i almost wish it were winter again

1337uvis
06-15-2008, 05:49 PM
well basically a finnish sauna (or at least what it's called here, not an expert tho) is about 90 degrees of the right stuff and low humidity, while the russian version does 120 degrees and near to a 100 percent humidity

SS_nyuu911_SS
06-15-2008, 07:03 PM
we have...uhm...saunas out here, just saunas, not "canadian" saunas...just.....saunas

1337uvis
06-15-2008, 07:13 PM
well that just shows the low level of sauna...sau...sauni...saunaing! We have tournaments here so sure we have to make the categories somehow, so there come the names and categories :P

oh and yeah, a finnish sauna is also verry neat and tidy, with an electric fireplace to heat the rocs and stuff

and the russian version is a crude small house, often from logs and etc and with a wood-fed fire to heat the rocks. Hard to explain, must see.

06-15-2008, 07:42 PM
My dad's old house had a Russian sauna, but it had mildew probems since the wood absorbed the moisture.

In the U.S., the only kind of sauna I've experienced is closer to the Russian kind. It's probably around 110 or 120, I've never really asked, but I know for a fact that it's far hotter than it ever gets even on ridiculously hot days in Mass. Plus we tend to make them out of ceder, they smell nice and resist rot and bugs that way. We do the humid thing too, but they tend to be tidy, though made out of wood. They can be either electric or coal heated, but the best ones are coal heated in my opinion.

Note on hot days in Mass: we just had a week with 6 days with highs of over 93 degrees. The record that I saw was on Wednesday, it was 101 over most of Bedford (my hometown).

I also live in Canada, but apparently I'm not in as good a situation as Nyuu...the scene girls around here have too many piercings and the majority don't like anime, and those who like anime are fat, or lonesome, and generally a sad sight to see.
