Really? I can see it being very easily made into a live action version, if it follows the Golden Age Arc, minus a few parts, which include the first battle with Zodd and the Eclipse, and then it is a question of how big their animation budget is. This does not mean I want to see this happen, though, because they will **** it up in many other ways that doesn't have to deal with the fact that it is live action.

Despite my mild dislike for Game of Thrones, I do admit that something along those lines does sound a bit more like something I could see happening. But it's no Golden Age without the Eclipse, and something like that seems like it would require a whole lot more of attention (and budget) than I'm guessing that the live-action version of a manga would probably have at its disposal...

Winter back in ye olden times was a biiiiiiiit more worse than it was now. No crop growth means lots of starving folks, **** ton harder to stay warm without our modern amenities and historically a really bad winter was the straw that broke the camels back in the case of starting the French Revolution. So the coming Winter is kind of a big deal. Also in the Game of Thrones lore, seasons last years, not months. Plus in the books, "Winter is Coming" is the repeated words of Eddard Stark in for the coming winter and end of summer, of which also in symbolism winter is reference to great dying and change...of which all occurs right off the bat when the king dies and a whole conspiracy begins unraveling while leading all seven houses to War after many years of peace.

(Plus in the books at least, Eddard's Stark saying that was taken less seriously as he was chalked up as "a whacky northerner".)

Well Turkey and Egypt are keeping low on the whole Israel vs Gaza thing. Egypt is actually a rare middle eastern ally to Israel and Turkey only cares about getting into the EU. Not to mention they've got their own problems to take care of.

I'll fully admit, I REALLY should've worded my last post better. The way it is now STRONGLY implies that the US is the only country that actually matters. Major congregations of Gamergate do not endorse such actions and have consistently frowned upon them whenever they are brought up, and the "death threats" have existed months before Gamergate even became a thing with many of them being incredibly dubious in nature. You see where this is going. The movement has been focusing on spreading their word while creating positive PR. Their origin is more logically traced back to either fakes, outliers, or an unwanted third party attempting to stir the pot. Let's further bring up that the ideology behind gamergate, the "fight against corrupt and unethical video game journalism," has been a sentiment echoed long before the conception of Gamergate. Undermining gamergate supporters by insulting the aformentioned ideal is an absolutely absurd and senseless idea.

I have been very distinctly keeping myself in the dark on the whole gamergate thing, since I know whenever this type of story comes out it's sensationalized and mired in a whole bunch of opinion and other bull****. Anyone care to give a simple, non-biased, fact only run down, or point me in the direction of one?

The downside of this timeline is that it hasn't been updated since the beginning of this month and leaves out some information such as the disclosure of GameJournoPro. Regardless, you still get the origins.

All right, now that I finally have what I hope is a pretty good view of the whole matter, I can safely say that this whole ordeal saddens me immensely. We've had thousands of users permanently kicked out of communities most of them had been habitually frequenting for a long time, dozens of sites being hacked, private information being indiscriminately disclosed, prejudices and suppositions rearing their ugly heads yet again and the lives of about a small handful of people probably becoming permanently wrecked. And all for... for...

... What were we fighting for, again?

You see, I think that the whole censorship-spree, site doxxing and petty chain of revenges that followed the matter has sort of caused us to forget the point of this whole thing, because I really fail to see the issue here.

Is the Internet angry about the fact that a woman tried to **** her way to success? In what way is that a new thing? Hell, that kind of thing has been going on in every workplace (even the army!) since time immemorial, and it hasn't even been a gender-unique thing either (although, granted, men screwing their way to the top isn't as common of a story for different reasons...)!

Is the Internet then outraged by the gaming journalism community's severe lack of professionalism? In that case, where were all the bloody hack raids, tweet dumps and furious armies of Internet users during that whole scandal less than a year back when it was revealed that companies flat-out bribed those journalists to give their games good reviews? That's a f***ing crime right there, in front of our noses, so why are we treating this incident as if it's the pinnacle of sleaziness within this kind of journalism?

Or are we instead all angry about the fact that this developer might be scamming people, asking them to fund what might be a non-existent project? Because, sure, that's horrible, but it still doesn't entirely justify the result of this ****storm... I doubt that the money stolen towers exponentially over the sums made by those companies buying positive reviews for their ****ty games from before and, again, this isn't too much of an uncommon thing either, especially here on the Internet. Why aren't we still morally outraged by that infamous "Nigerian Prince", then?

No, the real reason why this whole thing started was merely because of the parties involved and our personal love for profiling, generalization and prejudice (which is sort of ironic, if you think about how often this card is used by both groups).

This pile of **** of a situation literally started with an adulteress, a petty ex-boyfriend, some sleazy journalists and f***ing Kotaku, which are all things that people love to hate. Seriously, there is not a single positive figure to collectively rally around in that initial lineup.

Now, on one hand, you have the channers pretty much rushing at the opportunity to either kick those worthless parasites at Kotaku where it hurts while they have the chance or to otherwise harass some conniving succubus who, at the end of the day, most people agree was kind of an asshole anyway (in other words, a cheap target). On the other hand, you have the social justice warriors riling up to the defense of the accused to protect this helpless woman from those nasty, nasty misogynistic, ogre-like basement-dwellers and that prick of an ex. There, now you have two handy factions (whose members can all be easily grouped by the opposing faction under a list of cartoonish negative traits) that have reciprocally hated each other for years facing off, and the result of this is what you now see before you...

At the end of the day, there's really no superior moral position in this debate. I'm guessing that, deep down, in many people's minds it's less about the whole "gaming" ordeal and more about venting your anger and frustration against/screwing around with those damn feminazis, neckbeards or what have you...

I'm still sad that this ****storm had to happen around something that has, for the most part, to do with a group of people's private lives, and that could have been settled (or, at the very least, been quietly left to slowly die off) without having to involve literally millions of people into something that, at the end of the day, had little to nothing to do with them anyway.




And that's my two cents on the matter. I know that, by posting this, I'm just causing the debate to keep overstaying it's welcome, which is exactly the opposite of what I'm trying to advocate, but I still wanted to get that out of my system. I guess I'll just have to live with that little hypocrisy...

i only know two things on Gamersgate, the review in question that apparently makes Quinn "bought" does not exist, and the boyfriend aired all the dirty laundry weather they be true or not.

As far as I can tell...those are the only two facts and one of them isnt a fact because it is fabricated in the first place. Everything else is conjecture...and after one falsity is believed on mass...how can any one trust the information about Quinn good or bad and that it is is not Misinformation. Everyone involved have their own agenda's and it is a square peg round hole scenario.

The "the corrupt review never existed" is probably the biggest strawman parroted by those against the hashtag. Gamergate wasn't even formed when those accusations were made and were quickly debunked before the other side even got a hold of it. It's only used as a talking point because they either have absolutely no other argument or because they are grossly misinformed. To get even deeper into it, Nathan Grayson did indeed use Zoe as a talking point in two articles, one of which was about Gamejam and presented Zoe in a positive light, and at the time, according to Eron's timeline, the two were already messing around. According to Greg Lisby, a professor of the University of Georgia specializing in ethics in regards to journalism and lawyers, when asked whether or not maintaining a sexual relationship would cross the line of ethical journalism, he simply responded with "absolutely" right after deeming both friendships and living in the same home to be unethical as well. Big **** comes into play when Zoe was claiming to be "harassed" by Wizard-chan, when only two posts were directed towards her game and both were nowhere close to being considered harassment. It was a PR stunt to get her game on Greenlight and you couldn't even call her out on it without being labelled a "victim blamer." Again, tons of **** happened to cause Gamergate's conception, it was not just one thing and it certainly wasn't an accusation that was already debunked by the time Gamergate was conceived. If you really feel the need to trivialize anything and say that it started because of one thing, then you can look to the many articles about "the death of the gamer" that dropped on the same day with the same talking points on a ****load of different sites.

Hell, while we're at it, let's look at the Cracked article about said review.


Did I mention that the corrupt game review, the one that is the alleged reason this blew up, never existed? I just did. And now I should mention again that the game review never existed. That's something that should always be mentioned again, possibly with hovertext or an interstitial page every time anyone uses the #gamergate tag: this was started by total bull****.
When that was revealed, the gaters decided to carry on anyway. It's almost as if the original story was nothing but a thin veil over pre-existing hatred! They swore to expose corruption in the system, revealing that various gaming writers knew some indie developers. Which shocked the ass off everyone who'd thought gaming writers scrimshawed their articles onto little wooden balls from inside sensory-deprivation baths connected to ENIGMA decoders.
Gaters don't seem to know that the game journalism "industry" is about 20 meters across. Probably 10 by the time you read this. Gaters act aghast that people whose entire career is based on games sometimes play and pay for games. Would it be better if they didn't? And, what, the only way to avoid corruption would be to get sent things for free?
The alleged scandal is a pathetic fantasy. A woman bestowing sexual favors so that men will look at the video game she made? Hey, losers, when choosing an excuse to attack female developers, maybe don't choose one that sounds like the letter you wrote when you thought the Game Boy was a spinoff from Playboy.

Read that and tell me what you see. That's right, a collection of nonstatements. The first paragraph reiterates the notion that it was all started from nothing. The second paragraph is baseless accusations ("They're stupid and everybody totally believed they were crazy. Just take my word for it") combined with ad hominem. The third and fourth paragraph is just ad hominem without any accusations either. It's baseless tripe that people haven't even bothered to fact check.

Blizzard cancels "project titan"

Blizzard has officially canceled development on its mysterious next-generation massively multiplayer game Titan. The company confirmed the news to Polygon in a recent interview.

This revelation comes after at least seven years in development and word last year that the developer was going back to the drawing board to reevaluate the project.

Speaking to Polygon, Blizzard co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime reiterated that the company has technically never officially announced Titan, though it hasn't been shy to talk about the game over the past seven years. "We had created World of Warcraft, and we felt really confident that we knew how to make MMOs," Morhaime said. "So we set out to make the most ambitious thing that you could possibly imagine. And it didn't come together.

"We didn't find the fun," Morhaime continued. "We didn't find the passion. We talked about how we put it through a reevaluation period, and actually, what we reevaluated is whether that's the game we really wanted to be making. The answer is no."

Chris Metzen, Blizzard's senior vice president of story and franchise development, called the decision to cancel Titan "excruciating." Morhaime agreed: "It's always really, really hard to make those kind of decisions. It was hard when we canceled Warcraft Adventures. It was hard when we canceled StarCraft Ghost. But it has always resulted in better-quality work."

"The discipline of knowing when to quit is important," Metzen said. "We were losing perspective and getting lost in the weeds a little. We had to allow ourselves to take that step back and reassess why the hell we were doing that thing in the first place."

As Metzen and Morhaime have looked back on the past decade at Blizzard, a major factor in their decision to pursue Titan was the immense success of World of Warcraft, the company's first MMO and still the most financially successful game ever released in the genre.

"We were trying to do the right thing and build the right, smart product, and keep it all moving," Metzen said. "The opportunity to get that perspective and dust off a little bit, scraped knees and all, stand back up and reevaluate as a team, as leaders, as a culture — it was a big blessing."

Metzen spoke of a "sense of inertia and obligation and identity that we hold in ourselves and the community may also hold toward us" that pushed Blizzard to focus development resources on a second MMO. "Is this really who we are?" he asked. "Is this really what we want? Is this really what we want to burn our passion and our work lives, our careers on, for years on end?"

"Are we the MMORPG company?" he added later, in conclusion to that line of questioning.

Morhaime answered that last rhetorical question quite simply: "We don't want to identify ourselves with a particular genre. We just want to make great games every time."

Metzen compared Blizzard's creative struggles with Titan to that of a band: "I'm not saying we're an old rock band. But you watch documentaries about The Rolling Stones or U2 or these bands that have lasted for a while. And there's times where they just drive each other bat**** crazy. For as good as they are and the experience they have, sometimes you just don't find it, and you've got to get out of the damn studio and go have a beer and regroup."

"In many ways, Titan was that for us," Metzen said. "We took a step back and realized that it had some cool hooks. It definitely had some merit as a big, broad idea, but it didn't come together. It did not distill. The music did not flow. For all our good intentions and our experience and the pure craftsmanship that we brought together, we had to make that call."

The approach seems obvious if you look at Blizzard's history of canceling projects it doesn't have complete confidence in, but Morhaime made the company's philosophy clear: "That's for sure, that we'd rather cut out a game we put a lot of time and resources into than put out something that might..."

Metzen finished Morhaime's sentence: "Damage the relationship. Smash the trust."

"I wouldn't say no to ever doing an MMO again," Morhaime said. "But I can say that right now, that's not where we want to be spending our time."

Metzen clarified that Blizzard will continue supporting World of Warcraft. "My hope personally is that we'll support it forever," he said.

Throughout the interview, Metzen and Morhaime suggested that the recent trend of smaller-scale Blizzard releases like Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm has played a part in the company moving away from Titan.

"I think the lesson that comes around again is just making damn sure that the things we commit to do and the things we burn calories on and the things we commit to our community that we will do are coming from a place of focus and inspiration," Metzen said.

He explained that Hearthstone had helped the studio realize that they don't need to fit themselves into the box of only making products of a certain scale.

"Maybe we can be what we want to be and inspire groups around the company to experiment, get creative, think outside the box and take chances on things that just might thrill people," Metzen said. "Maybe they don't have to be these colossal, summer blockbuster-type products."

There was this reality show, looking for a new Playboy pin up girl or something. You could say, nothing more degrading to a normal womans image, as it's soft porn for men and they're comparing not just their looks, but dimensions and stances, etc, yet tens of thousands of women lined up for their shot. From what I've read on it, the kid's defense is trying to claim the cop pulled back up to them and tried to get out, but the door bounced off of the kid, so he started attacking through the window trying to pull him in. After that struggle, the kid was running so the cop got out to pursue, shot him in the back, and then shot him down when he turned to surrender.
The cop's story is that the kids pushed on his door to keep it shut, attacked him through the window trying to get his gun. When that failed, the kid ran, so he started to pursue. The kid turned to charge at him and wouldn't stop, so the cop had to shoot him down.

Personally, I think the kid's defense's story is utter bull****. First, if a vehicle pulled up to you that close, wouldn't your instinct be to try and move? At the very least, you wouldn't have enough stability in your stance for the door to just bump off of you. Next, why would the cop bother trying to pull them in through the window? That's just going to be awkward and get him injured, especially when he could just pull his gun and threaten them. On the other hand, the kid trying to attack through the window in an attempt to get the gun makes perfect sense. Finally, the autopsy results show that the kid was never shot in the back, and support that he was in a charge at the time the bullets hit him, so that part of the kid's defense's story is an outright lie. Toss in that the kid's denfense keeps throwing quotes from the two kids that are gramatically correct and educated in tone, when not one interview that I've seen from anyone in that community includes a quote without glaring gramatical errors, and it's pretty obvious to me who is full of **** in this picture.

Simply believing in something, anything, won't really cause issues. The problem is when a group of people who think the same way and have the same faith get together and start acting like dicks to anyone who doesn't think like them. I was speaking in loose generic and broad terms, yes. Which when analyzed, do fall apart. (I was trying to cover the broad strokes and not get *too* detailed.) However, while I know not all Atheists like Dawkins, many do treat anything the man says as, for lack of a better word, gospel. Which ties back into your point of when a bunch of people getting together who agree with one another... it creates an echo-chamber that tries to force those outside the Echo-Chamber inside of it.

Outside of the details about crusades (which was a means to unify Catholicsm in Europe and fend off invading Arabic Armies which only became a Holy War as one of the later popes got greedy and wanted to take back Jerusalem instead of simply repelling the invading armies... then problems arose.)
