About the Manga vs the Anime:
As most may know, studio GONZO enjoys taking advantage of their artistic license, and they tend to favor specific types of endings.

All I'll say, is that the manga and the anime are different.

The Anime tends to lean toward Drama, while the Manga is more of a Dark Comedy. The representations of both endings were also fairly different. The climaxes of the Anime and Manga were not the same, but they had similar pathos. The climaxes were also symbolically more or less the same.

HOWEVER: While I was not ?absolutely crazy? about the anime (when compared to the manga), I DO agree that the staff was absolutely correct in their guiding decisions. They picked a proper way to sell the anime. I am glad that I gave the Anime a chance, though it may be difficult to confidently recommend it without going into details.

Which is an EXCELENT show if you can enjoy Comedy-Drama (mostly drama).

Hint : These girl&#39;s are often an escort service for those who lack a bridge over troubled water. (Not exactly a riddle there, but it&#39;s a bit more cryptic and deeper then necessary.) A bad pun, though completely accurate in several episodes.

Big Hint : Somewhat like &#39;Azumanga Daioh&#39;, or Slice of life titles such as &#39;Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou&#39;? this show is known for absolutely nothing happing. Two whole seasons of nothing! It was awesome! ;D

The manga&#39;s original US publisher stopped after a few volumes. Later, a completely different publisher took over the job.

Well, the screenshot has been up for a while, I&#39;d say its time expired. I&#39;m going to pass this off to someone else. In the mean time if I happened to have another screenshot then I may put that up.

Did an auto-black-lister add the anime&#39;s title to the list based on my attempted urls from below? ... Surprise surprise IT DID! I&#39;m using an image because this is absurd. I&#39;m not angry, though I found this somewhat frustrating.

The title is &#39;Aria the Animation&#39; or could also be the second season http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/4010/atnak5.gif. Note, there is also an OVA in progress, and a third season in the works.

An anime in which &#39;nothing ever happens&#39; usually only survives if it can overcome its lack of plot development. As for Aria, it doesn&#39;t have a riveting plot, thrilling action sequences, or even fast paced comedy. The animation is well done, though not exactly &#39;mind-blowing&#39;...

What does Aria have?
- A strong sense of Atmosphere, enforced by meticulous pacing and an excellent soundtrack. Better yet, viewers are presented with an "idyllic setting, beautiful scenery, and compelling characters". Aria is able to create a unique world from which emanates an amazingly soothing and easy-going atmosphere. -

Aria asks it&#39;s viewers to slow down and relax in order to fully absorb its world. However, Aria does have an acquired taste; a very simple yet unique style that once accustom to, allows for shaping of the atmosphere and it&#39;s mood such that viewers can appreciate the beauty in the un-noticed and the simple joys of life.


In other words, I don&#39;t know how to pitch Aria. Nor do I know how to explain Aria. It&#39;s just something you have to experience firsthand. It&#39;s as if Aria isn&#39;t so much a thing as it is a feeling. You know the feeling of sitting out on the veranda on a summer afternoon, puffy white clouds floating on the breeze, children laughing in the distance?

Will you enjoy Aria?
At first, I wasn&#39;t expecting much so I had planned not to pay close attention while watching the series (working on various projects, sleeping, etc), but after several episodes I couldn&#39;t help but sit back and relax.. I was hooked.

Not many feel the need to rush through this show. You might say Aria is slice of life in one of its purest forms. Rather then being &#39;bitter&#39;, Aria would be very &#39;sweet&#39; and has a very optimistic point of view. Given Aria&#39;s &#39;pure form&#39;, it is often taken regularly and in small doses. ;)

I&#39;m not sure if Aria will appeal to anyone here, but I wanted to attempt describing what one should expect from Aria. If Aria does indeed sound appealing, then go ahead and check it out. If you do, and the only thing that bothers you is the slow pace, I&#39;d advise you still give it a try. You just might discover it ends up paying off. :)

Recommendations:

If you enjoyed Aria (manga or anime), and haven?t checked out ?Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou? then I?d highly recommend the manga, or possibly the OVAs.

Understand, the &#39;slow pace&#39; is not exactly something veterans should shake a stick at, and in combination with &#39;nothing ever happens&#39;, it?s ridiculous indeed. :P If you are looking for ?ridiculousness? more akin to Azumanga, then I?d recommend Azuma?s latest manga, ?Yotsubato? (mentioned below).


If you enjoyed Azumanga Daioh, I?m going to plug the ?Yotsuba&!? (Yotsubato) manga by Azuma (author of ?Azumanga?). While Yotsubato focuses on &#39;cute and innocent&#39; more so then Azumanga did, it still has Azuma?s touch.

Yotsuba&! is centered on Yotsuba Koiwai, a five-year-old adopted girl who is energetic, cheerful, curious, strange, and quirky?so strange and quirky, in fact, that even her own father calls her a weirdo. She is also initially ignorant about many things a child her age would be expected to know, among them doorbells, escalators, air conditioners, and even playground swings. This naivet? is the premise of humorous stories where she learns about, and frequently misunderstands, everyday things.
(Actually, a bit of the Yotsuba manga was featured in AMV Hell 4 ^_^; )

If all of the &#39;cheerfulness&#39; is getting to you... go watch the more recent &#39;Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei&#39;, it is dark comedy made of win. >:D Plenty of laughs, and the fanservice is literally one of them ;) (a reoccurring joke). >_< However, this title is also not for everyone.

Side Notes:
Of course, being categorized as ?slice of life? implies very little about the ?genre? and style of a work. Though, most often it implies a lack of ?plot?, and that usually in turn is accompanied by the feeling of a slower pace, but this is not always the case. While some classify Azumanga as &#39;slice of life&#39;, I would call that &#39;Daily Life&#39; or &#39;School Life&#39;. Though, as was stated, its down to semantics and the original definition has lost meaning over time.

Well, while this is decent, and I could probably do a bit better (needs some work), there are defiantly others that are much better then I am. But thank you :)
Several years ago, I made decisions that meant I would drift further away from professionally pursuing anything in the arts. Don&#39;t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy what I&#39;m doing now, and have yet to regret my decisions. Of course, I haven&#39;t the time to focus and refine techniques through rigorous training, but I do know my place.. Right where I am. As an &#39;amateur&#39;, enjoying occasional bouts of indulgence. A~nd, in the process ... having my ass handed to me. :D Defiantly.

First thoughts were to eliminate &#39;Spring and Chaos&#39; etc, wasn&#39;t Tamala either. When considering older looking titles that I associate with them.. I was reminded of &#39;Robot Carnival?. This may be far fetched, but .. Anyone get that vibe from the kids mouth? From the guy near the end of Robot Carnival? Or is that just me? o_O

That kid (the hanging one) is bugging me, it looks a lot like Akira too. Character design and maybe background, but the background also reminds me of &#39;Stink Bomb&#39; from Memories (color and design wise). ?Stink Bomb? may be a stretch, because I probably wouldn?t see that unless I was thinking Otomo. However, considering what I haven?t seen from Otomo.. I don?t believe any are the movie you are looking for, so I&#39;m guessing Otomo wasn&#39;t involved. Maybe some of his project&#39;s staff were? &#39;Akira&#39;, maybe &#39;Stink Bomb&#39;? (Character design? Art/backgrounds ?)

How you take a screen shot depends on what program you use to watch anime. You usually have to play the DVD or fansubs on your computer. How you actually take the screen shot depends on what program you use. (The normal windows &#39;print screen&#39; trick does not work for videos.)

What program do you use to watch videos? &#39;Windows Media Player&#39;, &#39;Media Player Classic&#39;, &#39;VLC&#39;, ZoomPlayer, Mplayer, or something else?

For example, you pause the video then:
with MPC you choose &#39;File&#39; then &#39;Save Image as&#39;
with Windows Media Player you press ctrl I and a box that lets you save the image. (Ctrl key + the I key)

What program do you use to watch videos? &#39;Windows Media Player&#39;, &#39;Media Player Classic&#39;, &#39;VLC&#39;, ZoomPlayer, Mplayer, or something else?

For example with MPC you choose &#39;File&#39; then &#39;Save Image as&#39;
I forget, but theres a key combination for WindowsMediaPlayer.. I&#39;ll see if I can find that.

I use winamp. I download the fansubs off of my file-sharing program and use winamp to watch it. The only exception is when I watch it on myspace or youtube. And just to get it out of the way, it&#39;s "Loveless". I got the...I guess it&#39;s actually a screenshot turned into a wallpaper...off of "loveless" Now somebody please post a real screenshot while I try to get some myself (I have some that would work, but they&#39;re all from Naruto and would therefore be WAY too obvious!). *sigh* and here I thought I was finally becoming an anime expert...

I know of one way to do it with Winamp, but it requires changing some settings, and I have an old version of Winamp so I&#39;m not sure its the same.

Yeah, the quality on YouTube and MySpace is a bit too low for posting screenshots here. But just so you know. You can use Shift + &#39;Print Screen&#39; (near PageUp). Then, the image is on your clip board and you can use any image editor (maybe MSPaint) and you can paste it, then edit and save it from there.

Yeah, I watched one episode of Loveless because of some friends. I then watched all of Gravitation with them, and then they had me watch some Grenadier. >_<

The image is most likely a scan of an artbook/poster or a piece of paper which someone may have turned into a wallpaper. :P

The opening and closing art sucked me in to watching this while multitasking. The manga?s art and pacing seems much better then the anime. Though, I&#39;ve only read one volume. I&#39;m not sure I&#39;d recommend this anime over other titles.

Well, its only partially released. Geneon USA went under, so there may be a delay on the rest of the DVDs...

Its a Geneon USA owned title, and with Geneon USA ceasing distribution of all their titles, who knows if/when it will ever end up released in US. (For anyone who didn&#39;t know already, ADV &#39;canceled&#39;/&#39;had to refuse&#39; the deal that would have had ADV take over all sales, marketing, and distribution for Geneon. :&#39;( While the date for orders though Geneon has passed, consumers can still find their titles on store shelves while supplies last. (Dubbing of Black Lagoon&#39;s Second Season will be completed by Ocean Productions, but they will still need a distributor.)


Eric said that they will finish ADR (dubbing) work for the first season of &#39;Higurashi&#39;. Bang Zoom will also finish &#39;Rozen Maiden&#39;, and I&#39;m under the impression that they still plan to continue with ?Seirei no Moribito?.

Geneon just needs to find a distributor (and sales/marketing) or they may just sell the license to someone else. You might have to import the rest of Higurashi to complete the box (as one of my buddies plans to do). :/

It is rumored that translation (at least) for a few other Geneon titles may also be completed. ?Nanoha&#39; and &#39;Zero no Tsukaima&#39;

Edit: I forgot to mention, several places have already sent DVD shipments back (whisper: some decided not to >_<), so I wish you the best of luck finding the titles that were sent back. Try Amazon or used DVD places if something is particularly difficult to find.

Well, I thought I was going to have to say I didn&#39;t know this one. It looked familiar, but it was defiantly something I only watched a few episodes of. My first instinct was to check out &#39;Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo!&#39; because I happened to have an old screenshot of it. Thats not it but it made me realize what it was.

The first two on mongoosies (which I believe they spelled wrong) might be a bit misleading. The shots are in there for the character and the comedic effect. And, the blood/gore slightly helps set the anime&#39;s mood. ;)

So I haven&#39;t seen much of these, but my first guess was Tokyo Majin (though, from what I remember its a bit too dark for this). Next was Peacemaker, which I&#39;ve only seen a few clips from, but I?m not sure that?s quite right.

While I have several good guesses of what titles are not the show, I don&#39;t have anything that I can think of that stands out. Still, since I should make a guess - I&#39;ll go with Peacemaker for now.

Edit: Awesome~ I just noticed the Shinsengumi symbol/icon in the corners. >_< It&#39;s not the line one though. The outfits had reminded me of the Shinsengumi, but they didn&#39;t have the stereotypical triangular zig zag on them. I gave up on the shinsengumi because for the shows I&#39;ve seen that contain them, the art style does not match. A fictional Saito Hajime?
I actually have a &#39;better guess&#39;, but I only watched a few minutes of it, so I&#39;m sticking with Peacemaker for now.

I&#39;ve considered watching Gintama a few times, but with the subbers jumping around I just kept putting it off. I&#39;ve heard little about it, but someone did tell me that the comedy manages to stay fresh, with bits of drama thrown in from time to time. The script writer has also done a few shows that seemed to do well. ::) I wouldn&#39;t mind seeing other screenshots if you&#39;ve already taken them. (Just, if you want to embed them then I&#39;d put them in the old post to avoid any confusion. Posting links to them in a new post would work too.)

darn, missed all the easy ones. As for this one...the yellow head boy made me think FMA at first...but there&#39;s no way that&#39;s it, as none of the others are in FMA and the animation style is a bit different. Not to mention he looks to be in his teens and yet has no metallic arm or robot following him...
