Yeah, the male reminds me of a character from X/1999, but I believe he had black hair and the character design and the red hair don't seem to line up. (Probably just the similar haircut style and color of his sheet/shirt/jacket)

Somehow, I think I've seen that guy before and she seems familiar (but maybe that's just the typical red hair). I want to say that's a hoodie and that I've seen him in a music video or somewhere looking all young and with concerned eyes. Basketball and love triangles come to mind too mind, but I don't think its the basketball anime I'm thinking of.

I'm pretty damn sure, but I can't personally back it up 'completely' because I haven't actually sat down and watched all of my friend's dvd of the live shows... and I have no clue if there was ever a live show done for kage kara mamoru and by the same actors.. (the joke may have been lost on me)

However, I can say with confidence that the song is on one of the disc's in the discography collection that I have:

I haven't seen kage kara mamoru, so I don't know the reference/(joke?) (though it sounds amusing), but Sakura Taisen's been around for awhile, and if it's not just the banana's then it could be the song as it's sung to the tune of "Watashi No Oki Ni Hitori" ("Your Favorite Person", as compared to "My Favorite Person").

Side topic: If you aren't interested in hearing Japanese sing Gekitei in various languages, don't worry about reading this section. Though if you speak German or French I'd be curious about their accuracy.. Otherwise, it might not be that interesting.

I've once or twice considered going back and watching Kage Kara mamoru because some clips seemed amusing, but haven't ever felt the need start watching it. Are there any shows that it is comparable to that I might use to gauge if I should give it a shot?

That's probably enough, though I imagine it would only take a few minutes to script something to automate the process of scanning that thread. but the only fun in that is in the process of scripting, so it's not fair, takes away from guessing, and is probably not really acceptable. (Now, if I was the one that had seen it posted originally, it'd be a little different. It'd be more like jogging memory ;) Yeaaah, tonestly clicking through all that is a bit more time then I'd want to spend trying to id something, unless it was a long lost childhood anime or if it was really bothering me because I'd forgotten it but once knew. ^_^;

Could be Kyou no go ni (Today in class) as gigg suggests, as I remember an umbrella scene. Cant' remember if it was in the ova or the series. I only got a little into the series because it was repeating the ova at the beginning, and I wasn't so sure about the subbers. Colors seem close enough, and for whatever reason the umbrella designs and backpacks seem right. I think that's because I'm starting to remember the scene where he walks between them and then sees them looking up a set of stairs.

That probably really depends on the encoding which could be tricking us in that respect, but I do understand that there can be blurry even before encoding (also it is raining so maybe it's different?). I've watched all of the fist season of Hidamari Sketch, and I'm fairly certain that's not it. It could possibly be from 365 which I still haven't watched, but recently bought on DVD. I'm still standing by Kyou no go ni, though. :p gigg has my full support on this one ^_^

Unless it's something new like 'Fumiko no Kokuhaku' which popped into mind because it looked like it might be an ok 'one time stand/watch', but don't take my word on that one as I haven't read any reviews and I was really just going on the promo art and short description. Actually, has anyone watched it? I guess I should go look for some reviews.

It's not yaoi, and I should probably make the file names more obvious. That would have defiantly been a good guess, though. ;)

Second image's file name says "It's not what you think" which was intended to suggest not to be in the yaoi mindset. While you could say the title in question caters to an audience that would enjoy some shonen ai, that's not exactly the sole purpose/goal. (I didn't put the captions below, as bbcode table support would have made it easier but isn't on).

However... there may be something in mentioning that: Some will consider one of the relationships a clear case of 'shonen ai'. While you will also find that there is a reasonably justified argument that this is only temporary, and that not everything is what it seems when judging solely by surface value. :3

The space shot is not only for clarifying the genre, but is key to the plot and also frequently used in connection to the anime in promo art etc. I'd still consider it shoujo, that was a shot from the first episode where the character was being defensive. (There were a few battles but they were mostly to enhance the plot/tension rather than for the action.)

Little (if at all any) takes place in space, but it is still considered SciFi.

The anime in question is an OVA adapted from a decently long run of manga. The mangaka was eventually bothered by letters from fans that claimed they identified too closely with the fictional manga. A lot was crammed into the OVA and the messy end leaves most going 'oookaaay' if you haven't read the manga, but it can a fun place to start sampling.

Last time I checked (5 minutes ago), X had 24 episodes and was a TV anime, not an OVA. I don't know about it's faithfulness or completeness; two versions of Negima have shown how bad you can screw up a really long running series if you try to do it in one season; but I do know that Tokyo Babylon is 2 episodes in length.

On top of that, the characters match, and you even have that stupid rabbit thing. Also, the space focus fits as well, but space or that sort of imagery is germane to just about every CLAMP production ever. Still, my money's on Tokyo Babylon.

It's not Tokyo Babylon or X. Though, they're pretty decent guesses. A staff member that had one of the more influential positions working on X and the X OVA also worked on the OVA in question. (I wouldn't say the person was well known, but he's gotten around, and there's a connection none the less)

It's not exactly related to CLAMP (ie. not a clamp title), though some of the minor staff roles in xxxHolic were filled by people that also worked on this OVA; and at least one other staff member also apparently worked a little on one of the other lesser known clamp titles.

EDIT: The image mentioned earlier (http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/332/spacexe.png) from space, can be broken down and you might find part of the title in what you see. Just to make the drawing clearer and provide another hint, I'll say its a shot from the moon of a familiar planet.

At this point there are enough screenshots, that more may not help. There's only really one character that I didn't take a screenshot of that it might help having one of. This requires loading the disc up and taking a shot, which I can do but I'm not sure it will help people much more.

So far you're reasonably close, but it looks as if no one has seen it, or even heard the synopsis. It's already become apparent that no one currently frequenting this thread has seen it, this means to me that you are already free to use staff listing resources, and now google. If you haven't already switched to looking up the staff of X, then at this point it's I'd say go for it. Or even google, as it would probably be better to identify it now rather then leaving it to come back again later. (I guess I'd rather share it then wait for someone that has seen it to come across it down the road, or wait for someone to suddenly come across it in the mean time.)

- There are three key words that if googled will return the correct title. (and image search will also eventually get it within 3 pages) Two of which are the genres (google will correct one to "sci fi" with a space instead of "scifi". I had also tried image search of "human sized cat" +anime (http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&source=imghp&q=%22human+sized+cat%22+%2Banime&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=) but the blog that the images link to is marked by google to be malicious, and I wasn't expecting people to mouse over the google img results and read the url in the status box for the title. Plenty of ways, those were just the only two things I tried out of curiosity, and they provided immediate results. Those drew only from what you might get from the images, and the hint about earth being a keyword.
