not explicitly no, but they left enough clues for a smart viewer to figure it out, like I said, READ THE ****ING SUBTEXT. I often prefer when things aren't explicitly explained, I like things that make me think.

well no that's exactly how they work, it's not hard to figure out you're just a dumbass, and a troll but that's really beside the point here.

At any rate if you don't believe me you can always read the manga where that sort of thing is explained, personally I like the anime better, they let me figure things out for myself and Legato just makes for a better villain in the anime though I'll say that watching the anime several times and reading the manga once or twice is a really good way to do trigun, because the manga itself isn't completely devoid of mysteries and you can apply things in the manga to the series to get an overall better experience.
