So, Guilty Crown is confirmed for being set in the same universe as Demonbane and Dra+Koi. For some background, Jin Haganeya's new manga DYN Freaks establishes that it, Demonbane, and Dra+Koi are all in a shared universe. Of course, not everybody has read either, so, to bring in some context, Haganeya started posting DYN Memos on Twitter. And the posted Memo refers to Lost Christmas.

Let's see. For this week's Kill la Kill, 2 things. (no spoilers)
1. After the crucifixion went wrong, didn't expect to see that happen to the other her.
2. The little bit of info that came after that, I totally knew it since ep 1, though
didn't expect the details to be what they are.
This week's Samurai Flamenco:
I really enjoyed this early on. It seemed to kinda lose it's way there when 1 became 5.
The episodes were getting a bit gratuitous imo. Then there's this week...
Let me see if I have this straight: The good guy, who was a bad guy, is a good guy again. and
The good guy is really a bad guy. and The good guy, that we thought was a bad guy, actually is a
bad guy, but he's actually a good guy (maybe?). Kinda like Kill la Kill this week. and The
girl who was supposed to be a good girl (a la 'good guy'), but might just become a bad girl (a la 'bad guy')
but no, is a good girl after all, turns out to be fan service.
And Finally, Yowamushi Pedal(anybody else watching this?)
Still my favorite of the season, but I will say this:
I find it quite ironic that is about bike racing and speed, has the slowest moving plot of anything
I've watched recently. The current arc, Bike Camp, is only 4 days in the story and 6 episodes and counting.
That's it...

And Finally, Yowamushi Pedal(anybody else watching this?)
I'm tempted to watch it just because of how hilarious that one guy's eyes are. Every time I look at crunchyroll's cover photo for the series, I burst out laughing.

Definitely doesn't have the detail of Gurren Lagann, but it's basically made by the same guys (at the new Trigger studio, of course) and I really enjoy it, even though backgrounds don't seem to exist. Though I really wish they'd make Little Witch Academia 2 (episode 2?) already. Still amazed how a 20 minute episode felt like a movie.
I don't mind their armor "fan-service", but the last few episodes with the mother, A) bathing her daughter in an erotic manner, B) Using a touchy-feely vagina blast on her daughter, C) fingering her tied up and naked daughter makes me worry.

true....it takes a while for the mother to actually appear in the show but once she actually DOES appear, you learn pretty quickly what kind of a mother she is. Plus, she's mentioned as existing pretty early, so you're not exactly surprised by the fact that Satsuki actually has a mother when the mother gets some screen time (unless you're some kind of idiot who can't take a blatantly obvious hint).
I guess the spoilers come more from the context. Context that Fluffy didn't even mention. So no actual spoilers.

Damn did the pacing and characters suck. Honestly, why bother making a six episode-long series when only two and a half of them are actually worthwhile...?
On the other hand, turning Jupiter into a bomb, the warping of time due to light-speed and f*ck-mothering Gunbuster (seriously, just the pose gets your blood pumping...) were pretty damn amazing. Also, that last scene somehow even managed to tear me up a little, of all things...

I'm watching less and less anime every year, which feels kinda sad because it was a big part of my teenage life and a bit until now. I guess I'm starting to feel too old for certain genres, even though I still enjoy it.

Ack there will come a point were you curse modern anime and be filled with hatred over "other" anime fans. That happened to me in 2003. I was only 14. I call myself a huge anime fan despite not watching much in the last 8 years and simply cannot understand modern anime.
I dont get or enjoy any of the big three. Naruto,Bleach or your favoured One peice. Ranma 1/2 is excellent and that will never change.
I am just an anime fan out of time. I miss the exciting time of the OAV boom. I started anime in 92 with Gatchaman and Samuria Pizza cats dubs. Then very very quickly onto cyberpunk anime laced with mecha. Come 2003 I had see 200 odd anime. Times had changed it wasnt the lates 80s and it wasnt the 90s.
2007 I dropped anime cos of how appaled I was with it. Elfen leid and other Loli on loli murder, there was also Moe scurge time. The anime scene is still much the same. Down to the deep core of the people makeing the anime not just the fans.
So i just go **** it and mine the 80s oav boom. still turns up daimonds.

focusing on one at a time atm. One episode away on Z/X Ignition. Thankfully, they haven't used that stupid "Zillions of enemy X" phrase since the first episode. Seems like they only said it that one time so you know what "Z/X" stands for.
I"m hoping they leave room for a 2nd season, even if they'll never actually do a 2nd season (they better!). Too many questions to answer in one more episode. Personally, I would rather have a good cliifhanger ending with no hope of completion than a **** rushed ending.

Certain Magical Index II.
Trying to keep the series and seasons in some order, I watched the more recent Railgun S before Index II, so going from that, which I felt was good, to fanservice overload in Index II is rather jarring.
What makes it weird is it's not a fanservice show. There's multiple convoluted stories in 3-4 episode arcs with an insanely massive cast. Yet half way through the series, SOMEHOW with all this Magic/Science stuff going on, the lead male has seen basically every girl blush, naked, changing clothes, bathing, get random wet shirts or something similar. It's taken even further when they have girls nowhere near the story suddenly getting naked.
I guess it annoys me, because this isn't what I signed up for. It's like they randomly stuck the scenes in. Hey, we're saving the world here, we mustn't waste any time! Followed by a scene of watching the main villain change her clothes...while making sex puns
I'm angry at this crazy order you gave me, you lie in that bath with your legs apart while I rant
http://tenka.seiha.org/images2/index218/index218_3.jpg
The Roman catholic Church kidnaped a nun nearby and there's no time to waste! So lets take a shower and scream, so only the lead male runs in on us!

For Spring? Most Certainly. This Year? I dunno, me and my favorite critics seemed to love Kill la Kill. (Namely due to the fact it was more intelligent than its subject matter may suggest, making it a nice surprise...especially all the incredibly subtle symbolism leading up the Betrayal aspect.) Well.
Continuing Yowamushi Pedal. It plays through Spring.
Started:
Nisekoi: Well, a bit cliche', maybe. Boy makes promise with Girl,
forgets girl but remembers promise, which leads to High School Love triangle.
OK no points for originality, but I'm finding it entertaining enough.
Kimigami no Asobi: Weird story of a girl who finds a magic sword and
is transported to the land of the gods - chosen to be an intermediary between to two realms.
It's level of bishi surpasses OHSHC. Not sure about this one, but the background art is very nice.
Majin Bone: I almost passed on this one at first. It began (mostly) of a computer grid and
heroes in action suits (ugh, Power Rangers) But I stayed with it and was hooked by the mid-show break.
Really like the way it's drawn, and it has a slightly more serious tone to it. I Recommend this one.
Finally:
In my queue, but not yet started. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
Prolly start this later tonite...Time to find out what everyone else already knows.

Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky
Black Bullet (not sure about it though, maybe if it doesn't devolve into harem tones I'll keep watching)

Coffin Princess Chaika
Is the order a rabbit?
Knights of Sidonia (I don't normally like mecha anime, but the style of this one interests me)

They didn't. Rettosei and Accel World are animated by two entirely separate companies and pre-production rarely ever takes more than a year.
More than likely, a piece of subliminal advertising that ASCII Media Works had Sunrise include or it's just a reference that Sunrise threw into the background as it wouldn't be the first time a random background reference is made to a popular light novel.
Anywho, on the subject of the show itself, I haven't even started watching it and I certainly don't plan on picking it up. I read the first volume of the light novel series once upon a time, which was a decent read, but then as the light novels progressed, flaws such as the mary sue self-insert protagonist and cumbersome exposition were quickly exacerbated by the author's incompetence.
Sir Fluffykins
04-14-2014, 12:21 PM
You're likely right, I didn't know about the light novels. Just got the sense I'd seen the two characters before and went looking.
I think the reason I remembered, is following the scene in the screenshot, there's a few long scenes in a bar/restaurant where the walls have the same advertising. Also why a show set in 2040-something would have so much advertising for something from "2017" is also weird.

Phantom Blood? Yeah, it's fairly rough around the edges; however, a big pay-off comes from Battle Tendencies which uses a large part of the world set-up to its fullest potential.
Then comes Stardust Crusaders which is more rough around the edges then Phantom Blood.

Also, it does a better job of following it from what I've heard (have yet to read it as can only do so online as pretty much everything bar arc 3 is not in English or sold at expensive prices)

Not saying that they're bad. Phantom Blood's just kinda "eh" in some areas. Stardust Crusaders is just, for the most part, a large string of filler fights that have one clever thing about them until Jotaro solves the issue by punching the problem in the face. There are some cool fights though like D'arby, Vanilla Ice, and Pet Shop.

Yeah, they're pretty much frame-by-frame adaptations. I do hear that Phantom Blood is going to diverge into some of Araki's original ideas for part 3, though.

I'm on EP 5 of Planetes and I honestly don't see what's good about it besides the animation. The fact there's a spaceship that looks like cellphone just makes me laugh, but I do have fun riffing the show with friends
and makes me wonder if anime riffing could be a big thing.

Well opinions, etc....but I think it's one of the best anime I've seen, even own it on DVD. The main story does take a while to get rolling, admit I shed a few manly tears.
I liked the space parts because they are realistic, or at least as realistic as you can get and be entertaining to the masses. NASA and the JSA helped with the technical aspects/space travel of the show. I mean it's a TV show with invisible fricking laser beams, (like they are in real life in a vacuum) what more do you want?

Finally finished up Witch Craft Works. Overall it was.....decent. And that's about it.
The visuals were amazing in a lot of areas (especially a couple scenes in the final episode), and I did like the humorous ED. The soundtrack wasn't all that great, and it seemed like they were making **** up as they went along the entire storyline (lol! I'm suddenly also a witch!).
I probably will plan to watch season 2 if it releases, but it's gonna be low priority. Probably put near the bottom of my ever-growing "plan to watch" list.
Next up: continuing Zvezda. This one I've only seen 2 eps. so far, so I'm not sure if I'll finish it. Seems interesting at the moment, though.

Today, I started and finished reading the entirety of Mitsuru Adachi's Miyuki. A really light hearted, pseudo-incestuous story (you know how it is in Japan) that I enjoyed thoroughly, which gets me pumped up for the day when I decide to read Cross Game, another of Adachi's works.
I might tap into Miyuki's anime (which debuted in the 80s *wink wink*) to see if there's something worth watching.

Currently watching Tonari no Seki-kun, partly because I’m a crunchyroll freeloader, but also because it’s a concise, simple and surprisingly well executed comedy that actually manages to be amusing.

Still watching Jojo, and I finished the third Madoka Magica movie.
Good damn, that ending was so ****ing shoehorned in. It feels heavily like a editorial mandate, so I don't know whether to pin the blame on Urobuchi or SHAFT as I think I recall somewhere that Urobuchi wanted a happy ending, but Shaft did not, but I cannot verify it at this time. In any case, I can see why tons of otaku and manchildren everywhere were pissed the **** off, as that ending came virtually out of nowhere with barely any justification or build up. It feels like a run of the mill attempt to try and capture 'the feel' of the original Madoka Magica ending or an "End of Eva". ____'s betrayal was so ****ing shoehorned in and did not work for her character at all, sure its somewhat implied there was Incubator experimentation, but that wouldn't be enough to make her anti-Christ tier evil, plus it completely shafts whatever 'development' she may have had as a character as well as the somewhat hopeful tone and pace the movie was going towards.
That SAID, everything else besides the last twenty minutes or so was better quality Madoka-Magica. The Animation was stellar and the soundtrack was amazing. The action was well done, and it was kind of a guilty pleasure seeing the girls have somewhat of a Utopian life before the main plot comes crashing down. Really, the best I can sum it up as is: the Mass Effect 3 of Anime movies. Good but Flawed first 3/4th's, but terrible ending.

now I'm sorry about any **** going on in your life but that's not my issue. With that in mind I got to tell you something and this might be a shocker but anime is mainly geared to teens and kids, now you may be thinking "Well Kintaro you're watching it too"

There is good and bad basically in every form of art, anime included. If someone walks up to me and tells me that Michael Bay's Transformers is a better movie than Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas I'll laugh at them.
now I'm sorry about any **** going on in your life but that's not my issue. With that in mind I got to tell you something and this might be a shocker but anime is mainly geared to teens and kids, now you may be thinking "Well Kintaro you're watching it too" there's a difference I'm self-aware I know what I'm viewing and I know it doesn't put me anywhere on your "ladder of acceptable behavior" or on societies. You on the other hand seem to be in a state denial, why do you feel the need to put yourself on a pedestal? Something for you to think about. Now about me, I don't really care for "social acceptance" nor do I have a sense of regret, my original post was a joke I really didn't think anyone would take it literally.
I can't really tell if you wrote this trying to be serious. I didn't take your post seriously and you should not take any post on an anime/ amv forum seriously.

Then again I'm not a mentally retarded idiot who considers anything more complicated than "1+1=2" to be "deep" so.....
Regardless, I still enjoyed it somewhat. Wouldn't say it's anywhere NEAR as good as all the hype it once had (and still does to a somewhat lesser degree) makes it out to be, but I didn't fall asleep. There were a few good scenes...but overall it was pretty "meh". Well, that's how the movies are, at least. Haven't seen the TV series yet, but I don't really plan to considering how "meh" the movies are and the fact that the first two were recaps with the same damn story.

Technically, there was a LOT more than 2 titans "milling outside". There's still just one that actually manages to breach the damn wall, though. The first wall, at least. I do recall some metal-looking one or w/e breaching either another wall or a different spot on the same wall a bit later on. All those other titans just kinda.....scratch at them or something.

They explain the titans bit by bit as the show goes on, for example they can regen their entire heads in 2 minutes, which goes to explain why there's so many when there's all those cannons and soldiers attacking them.

Finished the first half of Attack on Titan, that was a wild ride.
Kept me interested, had lots of action and surprisingly lots of movement. Also impressed by the massive size of the cast, seeing as they constantly killing off people. There was a scene where a guy finds the body of his friend during clean up and identified him to the nurse woman, but I honestly couldn't remember who the friend was and had to google him (Yes, I did remember him after seeing him as a living person :P)
Also I think I blew the entire overall plot for myself when I had a quick look where the manga was and saw a Royal anti-human squad blowing a whole bunch of Scout troops heads off with advanced gun weapons

I finished up watching Miyuki a while back, and I've gotta say I loved the 80s corniness. The voice acting, the Japanese 80s music, the story, the animation (and flubs in lip-syncing)... aahhh, it just makes me giggle like a bitch.
I also read up on Naoki Yamamoto's Arigatou, which is a short, heavily psychological series about a dysfunctional family. It has everything: a Salaryman obsessed with single-handedly preserving the family, an older sister who was baited into being a sex slave, a younger sister who's rebellious and overall uncomfortable with society, and a mother who silently copes with her conservative role as the wife with alcohol. The whole thing has a few touches of dark comedy and lots of criticism towards certain Japanese values and attitudes, something which I enjoyed thoroughly.
I must stress the fact that this title is for grown, intelligent adults only. Not only for the explicitness, which there is quite a bunch of, but also for the increasingly dark and depressing tone this manga conveys throughout its course.

so in the end, I've decided to add all 12 currently airing anime to my "plan to watch" list. All except No Game No Life and Seikoku no Dragonar. Those 2 are still "watching". This will increase the chances of coming across spoilers, but that's never been a super-huge issue for me anyway. Plus, the other 10 were anime I'm really only somewhat interested in anyway. Putting them off for later will also allow me to marathon them, if I so choose (since every episode will be available by then).
I've also added Digimon Tamers to the mix, since I've been planning on fully watching this for a LOOOOOOONG time (I've only seen parts of it in English....mostly towards the end). Probably going to go with subbed since the English version cuts/changes a lot of stuff. That, and the Tamers movies (if I watch those....and I probably will) were never dubbed. I don't wanna get used to the English voices and then suddenly change to the Japanese ones.
There's a digimon fan-page that lists all the differences between subbed/dubbed (even dialogue), so I can always read that afterwards to see what, if anything at all whatsoever, I missed watching it in its original form.

Pretty hard for me to like the Sailor Moon dub, considering the show is completely different and the voices annoy me for some reason. Dragon Ball Z wasn't too bad with the dub, much better than Sailor Moon's. It also had a habit of spoiling important plot points, even with the first episode

I tried to watch the movies (haven't seen much of the first season of Sailor Moon) and I almost tried blood.
Usagi's (or whatever Sailor Moon's normal name is) English voice, sounds so wrong. I have no idea why she sounds like an older woman compared to the other girls, who I can at least stand a little bit. But put Sailor Moon and that pink haired b*tch together and it's like someone tried to weaponise bad-dubs.

Anyone have an opinion on Nisekoi?
It’s a pretty bog-standard, slow-burn, love triangle eventually (d)evolving into harem comedy.
Expect predictable developments such as: “OMG it turns out we were childhood friends and I do want to bone you after all LOL”.
The characters are all familiar archetypes with no real surprises about them, but they’re likeable enough.
It doesn’t suck so much as fail to do anything all that new or exciting. It’s alright for casual viewing.
The Shaft/Shinbo flavouring- love it or loathe it- is strong in the first episode in particular, but becomes less rampant as the show goes on.
========

Also IRT SAO there is the 'let's all watch the train wreck' factor: after all nobody in their right mind would suggest that the Bayformers films are anything other than ****, but they rake in dough hand over fist.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MJLKoDNX2eg/UMG_BfiSZ2I/AAAAAAAAAWk/0Ly-LbdQijU/s1600/1313813623746.png
There's popular shows I didn't like: I dropped Gurran Lugan a few eps. in, couldn't hold interest in Clannad:After Story and didn't get the love for Baccano!.
Edit: Started watching the new Netflix season of Clone Wars, seems decent so far, has most of the same VAs, only a couple episodes in though.

I may have drank the majority of my higher functioning brain cells away, so I've started to go back and rewatch a lot of the **** that I often tout to others as "shows I remember fondly." This is in an attempt to either confirm my feeling towards the show, or make clear my nostalgia goggles. Starting with Gundam Wing then heading straight through X, Full Metal Panic, Steel Angel Kurumi and Kiddy Grade, then ending with Kenshin.
Depending on the success of this rewatch with clearing space in my DVD rack, I may schedule another here shortly.

Also finished watching Silver Spoon. It was .....weird, I guess. I'm going to move on to season 2.
By the way, if you have Curly (of The Three Stooges) audio that you're dying to use, but need

Started Spice and Wolf. Unfortunately the most entertaining aspect of this show is the sexual tension between a man and a furry, which isn’t quite enough to keep me interested. Dropped.
Otome Yokai Zakuro. Here the sexual tension is between men and half-furries, and works better.
This show is so straight and manly, even the CrunchyRoll subtitles are pink.
Surprisingly entertaining.

Finished Death Note last night which was fantastic. I know, I'm 7 years behind.
Started Knights of Sidonia this morning and can already tell I'm not going to like it 10 minutes into the first episode. It's 100% CGI and looks like it's going 10 frames a second.
It's looking like Pacific Rim in space but I just can't get over the visuals.

Honestly thats what i thought at first with Knights of Sidonia, but it does improve after the first couple episodes and you get past the fact that its all CGI, but the first do look amazing, think thats where most of their budget went.

That's ****stupid as all **** and you know it. The CG in Knights of Sidonia is monumentally more complex and crisp than that of all of the Zoids anime. First things first, the cg attempts to emulate line-depth. That's more than I can say for New Century, Chaotic Century, Fuzors, and Genesis. Secondly, light sources are an actual thing with this meaning your getting both shadows and highlights. This adds both a natural glow to the smooth metallic surfaces on entities such as the Guardians and creates an added dimension to the emulated cell-shading. Further reinforcement of this notion is found with the Guana and the Benisuzume, who have an obvious texture thanks to the way light diffuses off of their rough meaty surfaces. Combined with actual DOF, reflective surfaces, skilled choreography and cinematography that takes advantage of CGI's capabilities, it's an absolute one sided curbstomp in Sidonia's favor when compared to Zoids.

^I enjoyed Knights of Sidonia, waiting for second season to come out (literally the first serious mecha anime I have enjoyed. All other mechas I only liked due to comedy, like Gurren Lagann or Kenzen Robo Daimedaler)
Currently trying to watch some stuff from my 'To-Watch' list before I get stuck into Summer season of anime that started. So watching Desert Punk (rather enjoyable, like a dirtier Trigun), Sailor Moon R (watched first season in Japanese little while ago since remake is out soon) and hopefully can get started on Daily Lives of Highschool Boys and Folk Tales from Japan soon

Started the summer season (still have some animes which haven't aired yet, will review them when watch them)
Akame ga kill! - Definately up there as top anime of 2014, since that has usually always gone to a summer anime and it seems pretty popular with vast majority. Not sure what to think of it myself yet. Will read the manga
Barakamon & Glasslip - Both really good looking slice of life animes, nice to watch as a wind-down from all the action ones
DRAMAtical Murder & Bakumatsu Rock - First one is good (all yaoi content from the game is removed) but the latter one I might drop if doesn't have anything good develop soon
Sabagebu! - Comedy with schoolgirls and guns, what more do you want? Also adorable platypus
Space Dandy 2 - Exactly like the first season
Tokyo Ghoul - Finally a good horror anime in forever. Will read the manga of this also
Sailor Moon Crystal - Not bad, some aspects are a bit odd but still has the same spirit as the old anime
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - Funny romance anime, like it even though romance stuff isn't usually my thing

Continuing my list of animes from this season (since the ones I want to watch are finally all airing):
Yami Shibai 2 - Just like the first season. Still creepy despite only being a few minutes long
Tokyo ESP - Pretty good first episode, but I do wonder why characters from Ga-Rei Zero are in it. Will have to check the manga and look it up
Zankyou no Terror - Also really good first episode, just not fully sure what to make of it yet
Kuro****suji: Book of Circus - I read the manga, so I'm pretty glad that they are finally adapting the arcs into anime. Since it follows after episode 15 of the first season, as everything after that (including season 2) was made up garbage
Re: Hamatora - Not much different from first season, but I am sort of dissapointed at how flat the cliffhanger from the final episode was. The way they resolved it in the first episode was undramatic
Ao Haru Ride - Pretty good feels/romance anime. Will stick with it as interests me more than some romance ones
I dropped Bakumatsu Rock, as nothing much happens and besides the singing etc there is very little else appealing about it

I'm not normally a fan of the genre, but Hunter x Hunter (2011) is rocking my socks. The chimera ants arc is one of the few times in my 20+ years watching anime that I'm on even level rooting for protagonists and antagonists. The depth of character and the time they take to establish motivation is commendable, so much so that when it does make its inevitable stumble into shonen trope, it registers as more endearing than annoying. I'm lapping this **** up. (Episode 133)

I typically give anime only a certain amount of episodes anyway. I like short series. Get in, get out, get on with your life. That's why Bleach is still kind of left open, because it hasn't really reached its limit. A friend of mine has a hard limit of 100 episodes. After that, he calls it quits unless it is really that good (For the record, so far only 3 series have taken that honor, and Naruto is not one of them).
Wow, going back to an old post. Naruto should be closing soon.

Haven't watched it in a while, basic synopsis: Ordinary High School student lives next door to the petite and popular but tsundere/yankee girl in his school. They meet, she makes him her 'servant', 'he's not my boyfriend/girlfriend', etc. but everyone else in school thinks they make a cute couple. Love ensues. Same formula as many other anime but executed well.

Watchable, but the ending left something to be desired. I'm a huge fan of "dawwww" scripts, and this one had a few moments, but on the whole left a lot to be desired. It felt a bit rushed, and there were a few times I was left scratching my head over character motivation. But all in all, it's not offensive and worth a look for you to make your own opinion. I'd say stream it on the streaming network who's name we do not speak (though I am not frequent enough to know why.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOzxUzkvVak
If you ARE looking for something "dawwwww" worthy, I stood up and applauded after Dusk Maiden of Amnesia. That **** had me in tears of joy at the end. Different tone than Toradora, but also worth a watch in my opinion.

I think CR/Funi/AN have bad reps around here because some people prefer to steal their media, so the creators don't see a penny. :p
That said, I have nothing against 'acquiring' shows/manga that weren't localized/things you know you'll buy on disc but don't want to be spoiled on.

My main beef with them is that i would have to pay for sub-standard video, sub, and translation quality, when I could much better subs from sub groups the same day. If I truly like an anime, ill seek to support it by buying BDs and figures rather than paying some middleman like CR. Plus, localization takes too long.

Gotcha. Thank you, Sir. I'm not a bleeding heart when it comes to streaming rights, but i think if there's a series that is worth its salt, it's worth buying. This way, you're telling the industry what's worth your time, and hopefully, dictate what sort of series are for our market. This is also the reason I've been calling the rest of the world toll free the past few years, pleading with them not to watch Michael Bay films. It's lazy cinema that gives a bad name to "popcorn films." You don't have to call me. I've boycotted every movie of his since Pearl Harbor (though I did get dragged to see the first Transformers bit he didn't get any of my money)
Most of the anime I like doesn't get licensed anyway. As for the ones I really like and are licensed, I'm more likely to buy the Japanese edition since that money actually goes to the production company. Contrary to popular belief, after a license has been sold to a western distributor, the proceeds gained by the distributor are divided amongst employees of the distributor. That is to say, the guys that actually made the show don't get anything other than money from the license purchase itself.

This.
I love it when people act like they're saving the industry or w/e by going through CR instead of some "less than legal" site like animefreak.tv. The subscription is like, what? $7/month? There used to be an "all access" pass for a bit more that also included Kdrama, but I think that has its own site now. They did also add manga recently, although I think that's part of the anime pass. Not 100% sure on that....and don't really care.
Either way, that's only $7/month you're giving to the industry. Let's be honest here, how much of that $7 are the studios going to see? Can't say for sure the exact amount, but I'm preeeeeeeety sure CR gets at least a portion of it for themselves. More than likely the majority of it, even. Even if the studios DO get 100% of that $7.....it's $7. Major industry supporter you are not. I understand pocket change is still better than nothing at all, but why not save up that $7/month until you can buy a figure or bluray or something. You know....stuff the studios might actually see some money from.
It's not that we're all super bad people that just want to steal everything because we hate the studios. We just prefer to support them in REAL, ACTUAL ways.

Didn't say I don't buy DVDs, have a decent collection actually. Just because I like the ease of using Netflix doesn't me I sopped buying live action discs, though it probably helped me to avoid some bad decisions. :sweatdrop:
Figures are for basement dwelling neck-beards. (may be kidding...but only figure I own is a Tachikoma)
Quality of the subs? I don't know Japanese well enough to know detailed translation errors/changes but I've seen some LULZ fansubs (misspelling/grammar/etc.) even a few years ago. I don't really nitpick sub or dub if they make changes to have things flow better in English but don't change the plot/etc.
Video quality of CR on my HDTV is decent but it's not one of those giant ones, not like HDTV is *really* a detailed standard compared to potential today, my iPad has around twice the resolution. Lots of anime on Netflix in full HD too, forgot those.
Like I said earlier I don't get into the dub/sub/pay fight in a serious way, enjoy what you want how you want to, but personally I prefer the legal way when possible. May be because I'm older and have money now, in my younger days I may or may not have torrented fast as my (much more limited) bandwidth could handle.
Back OT:
Finally getting around to Death Note (it showed up on Netflix)...yeah yeah I'm behind the times, but I was watching other series at the time and never got around to it. Pretty much the whole thing's been spoiled by AMV Hell but I wanted to see what made it so popular back then.

Aside from the Michael Bayness of it all, they're nothing but commercials for GM cars. And you can tell by my screen name how much I enjoyed that.

Well, after 2 episodes of SAOII which I thought were good, we get the completely drawn out and boring (read as sh*t) episode 3. How the hell did they make an episode about a girl pissing herself when she sees guns because she blew a guys brains out (as a toddler), such a god-damn chore to watch.

Sword Art Online II
So far, my opinion is:
Episode 1: Good starting episode
Episode 2: Excellent episode
Episode 3: Boring sh*t episode (just because it's story heavy isn't an excuse to have next to no "animation" for 25 minutes)
Episode 4: Decent episode, laughed at Kirito getting hit on, but felt the world was too empty (could be because it's TV) but liked that the American Gambling Cowboy spoke proper English lines

I love that anime so far. The comedy is good and despite my hatred of children, I find the kids in it to be adorable (if lacking in personal boundaries). It actually makes me want to just go and live on a Japanese Island, even though it will probably be nothing like the anime

That's the thing, Endless Eight is well done, it's all the fan-service tropes rolled into one and then repeated, with different animation for all the episodes, the problem is, there's EIGHT EPISODES OF THE SAME PLOT.
That said, I wasn't watching 1 a week when it came out, so I basically marathoned through them and didn't really have a problem.
Also, seeing as most people remember Endless Eight and still want a season 3 should indicate it's not all bad.

You're right. What's crazy is, I enjoyed it as well. But I was struggling at hitting the "next" button at every scene. I guess what made it worthwhile is the smug feeling i got at the end knowing i sat through all of it. I'd kill a man for season 3. I want to see where this goes and I genuinely like the characters, which is saying something.

Just got done with Border 3: Ghost Tears.
As always convoluted and paced faster than a field mouse coming of a 3 day coke binge. But still this was my favorite episode thus far or at least a close second to the previous.
Motoko's relationship with Akira really helped to dive a bit into her as a character and more-so as a human. There was also a stronger philosophical representation than in the other installments. It's a crying shame that it was teaspoon shallow and only barely lasted longer than similar moments in previous episodes. I'm still a bit confused as to the whole Scylla business. All I could eventually gather from it was that Motoko helped guerrillas during the last world war by developing a cyberbrain construct using parts of her own programming and intelligence, that eventually growing to form it's own form of intellect, aforementioned guerrillas using that after the war to carry out attacks in the name of freedom and independence, why the hell they did this in Japan is a bit beyond me at this point. Maybe something with allegiances or whatever that they fell short on.
And as per usual a whole lot of loose ends left untied which hopefully get addressed in the next OVA.
Just saw the trailer for the next border and it's looking good, lot's of cyberbrain hacking.
September will tell otherwise I'm writing this off as a swing and a miss.

"thats your opinion" and "you have what you like and I have mine" are quite possibly the most stupidest come back you could possibly think up, as you in no way defend or validate your claim to a shows quality and gives the impression you have no evidence to counterargue or defend your position at all as it seems to be an attempt to completely shut down any sort of debate, criticism or critical analysis of a show and makes others think that you have no evidence to back up your claim. If a show is good, it will have plenty of interpretations, elements, etc. that can be used to back up your opinion. "Its my opinion" does not defend your claim at all or show any rationale or critical thought going into it.
If you were to create an essay with the only source being "this is my opinion" with no backing up from the story itself, outside sources, or citation and critical thought, it would very likely get a failing grade. This translates into the entertainment industry and thus critical analysis and debate. If a show is good, then you can argue reasons WHY its good and counterargue perceived flaws from Critics of said show. Like, no one of intelligence is going to argue that Micheal Bay makes good movies and people who like those movies often have no merit.
tl;dr: "thats your opinion/you like what you like and I like what I like" comments offer nothing to the community and provide no route for critical thought or analysis and do nothing to defend the quality of a show.

But anyways, Aldnoah isnt really trash. I believe Backmask's statement when i initially mentioned the series was that its "the same recycled Spacenoid vs. Earthnoid bull**** plot that has been around since the 70s". Thats like saying that SAO, NGNL and Log Horizon are all the same. Same topic =/= same plot.

Aldnoah's only saving grace is that it has Sawano Hiroyuki doing the OST, other than that the story is very lackluster, theres nothing really new or innovative about it. I would also say it has the recycled spacenoid vs. earthnoid plot because it follows the same equation of the spacenoids having advanced tech compared to earth and even though theres that they have 1 individual who can still beat the spacenoids in and earth suit despite that.

Anyway, manga and anime-wise, I'm currently breezing past LOTGH one marathon at a time, and the end to this mastodon of a series is slowly but surely coming in sight... Not sure whether I should pick up Dennou Coil, Diebuster or Hare+Guu next, though...
Despite my high hopes, given the artist, Imawabi no Dakini (http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/imawabi-no-dakini-r9024) predictably flopped pretty hard... On the other hand, thanks to my sister coming back from Japan, I finally got my grubby little hands on two volumes of Nickelodeon (http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/nickelodeon-r4261) and one volume of Voynich Hotel (http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/the-voynich-hotel-r3737), so I'm not exactly in the position to complain about anything today...

I wasn't that big of a fan of it either. It was just another Marvel movie, which basically translates to "witty" dialogue trying to carry the garbage villain, terrible final fight, painful exposition and standard MacGuffin. It also didn't help that everyone in the crowd was laughing hysterically at everything the characters would do.
