Not sure whether I should pick up Dennou Coil, Diebuster or Hare+Guu next, though...
For you, I'd recommend Diebuster, but only if you already watched Gunbuster, otherwise, some parts will seem a bit confusing.

He's seen Gunbuster, though I'd be wary of recommending someone fresh off Gunbuster to Diebuster. There's quite the tone shift between the two and one's opinion of Diebuster would warp considerably depending on what they come in expecting, regardless of the quality of Diebuster.
Regardless, I'd recommend Dennou Coil.
I'm also reminded that I haven't even finished Hare+Guu yet.

I'm in the process of watching every episode of The Simpsons (or at least until it stops being funny). I'm on season 9 now (1997-1998) and just finished the Canyonero episode.

I'm having a hard time on deciding whether to watch Summer Wars of Grave of the fireflies. I hear there both great movies.
Oh and also regarding Aldnoah Zero, is it just me but is Inaho trying to create his own harem?

Summer Wars is good. I haven't seen the other one.
(Not really a spoiler) One thing I always find humorous about SW is:
"Hey we only have a few moments left before (something happens) and we all die..What should we do?"
"How about dinner!"

Summer Wars is a great watch, very similar to the Digimon movie/ova plot with Diaboramon , but more fleshed out and interesting. Grave of the Fireflies I've never seen, but that's tragedy, while Summer Wars is more fun for the whole family.

Grave of the Fireflies is overrated.
This is hardly a spoiler, but I’ll spoiler it anyway:
My biggest gripe comes before the opening credits even roll- the movie makes the odd decision of showing the audience that both its child, main-characters are going to die before the end of the story; completely spoiling the emotional punch of the tragedy.
Apparently I’m in a minority here, but knowing a character is about to die before the story has even started kind of switches off my ability to get emotionally attached to them.
I felt more dumbfounded and angry at Seita for letting his sister starve, than I felt sad she starved in the first place.
Grave of the Fireflies has enough love and acclaim. Give Barefoot Gen some more attention instead.
Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-Kun- episode 6 was surprisingly amusing, it gave us a different take on the whole “MISUNDERSTANDINGS ZOMG” trope.
Rewatching Dusk Maiden of Amnesia (http://www.crunchyroll.com/dusk-maiden-of-amnesia)- Pretty to look at, likeable characters, breast-grabbing minus the “IIE~! BAKA HENTAI!” crap… I forgot how good this show is.
I’d recommend watching the first episode at the very least, which is an interesting and unique kind of an introduction.
I just can't get enough of those:
"Oh, Noooo!"
and
"Oh My God!"
and even an
"Oh ****!" and a "Son-of-a-Bitch!"
I'm with you on that one.

I think it kinda enhances a connection to the character. You start off the movie,
and you seem some regular joe die. You feel kinda sad, but not really because you have no knowledge of the character prior to his death. But, as the movie goes on, and you see hes a human, who had a family, had a life, had dreams and hopes, all of which were slowly stripped from him because of the effects of the war. We knew he was going to die due to the opening scene, but as the movie ends on that same scene, it has a lot more meaning and impact then when we first saw it, because of the exposition that the movie gave.
But I digress.
Zankyou was good as always this week. I see some people complain that the series went to ****, but I honestly enjoyed the latest episode.
It was thrilling and action packed, but more smartly choreographed than a "Boom-Pow-'Splosion" action show.
The engrish was god awful last episode, but that's expected.

My goodness, but this is yummy!
It's a 5-episode arc about Kanbaru (The monkey-paw girl) that they decided to just
splice them all together into a movie-length episode.
I'm 2/3 through...will finish in a little.
Oh, and in non-anime, a friend loaned me Firefly: The complete series. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303461/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1).
Yeah. Put that on your list of things to watch, if you haven't seen it yet.

Right now I'm watching Tiger & Bunny (english dub), Space Dandy (english dub), Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal II, Bleach (english dub), and Kinmoza. Tiger & Bunny are the two most recent anime I started watching. Kinmoza was on my watch list but I wasn't planning on watching it yet. But I came across episode 1 on crunchyroll and watched it on impulse. I watch an episode every now and then when I feel like it. It started off interesting but now it's getting boring. I'm on episode 5. I like Tiger & Bunny though. Since Monday I blew through about 10 episodes. I'm on episode 19 now. I finished the Japanese verison of Bleach a while ago when the last episode came out but when the English version started on the Fullbring Arc I decided to watch it. As you can probably tell I prefer dubs. Before I started Tiger & Bunny and Kinmoza I finished the first season of Hell Girl, dubbed of course, Ro-Kyu-Bu! and the second season of Seitokai Yakuindomo. The next anime I'll be starting is Coyote Ragtime Show.

OMG you are right I didn't feel attached to the characters at all, and even could goes as far as to say I hated to main characters by the end. I watched the dub and who ever voiced Setsuko just made her sound so annoying. P.S. I found Summer Wars more entertaining.

Kill la Kill was ****ing awful. What's the opposite of character development? You know, what happens when a character, for some unholy reason, becomes less of a character? That term would accurately describe everything about Kill la Kill's cast. Take Nonon's character as an example. The time we get a hint of her own personality was when she was fighting against Ryuuko and we see that, in a abridged sense, she wants Satsuki to acknowledge her. Of course, whoever was in charge of the script completely forgot about this. She, like the rest of the Elite Four, are reduced into being Satsuki's uninteresting cult of personality. Hell, there was a set up for some interesting interactions once people found out that Ryuuko was Satsuki's sister, but that would require an ounce of talent, something that Kill la Kill's writers lack.
Inumuta was grossly irrelevant the whole way through, so there's no point in discussing his "character," which wasn't much of a character, mind you. It was the "Computer Hacker" character cliche taken to incredibly lazy levels, with his only purpose being to push buttons.
Remember how Uzu developed into a boring samurai-wannabe for the purpose of having a rematch against Ryuuko? Well, the writers most certainly didn't. Uzu retained that personality, but none of the purpose. Like Inumuta, the only thing that was shown of his character was that he served as a shallow cliche and contributed to Satsuki's absolutely abysmal cult of personality. Now that I think about it, the scripts for both Inumuta and Uzu were incredibly bland, with the most mundane of lines having some slight hints at the cliche they are supposed to represent. This makes both of the characters incredibly flat as their lines do not reflect different speech patterns, sentence structures, or anything else that would attribute to their personality. The only thing that identifies their personality is that their voice actors deliver the lines in the manner of the cliche, such as Inumuta sounding more nerdy and geeky while Uzu sounds more "samurai" like, and the character designs are generated around the respective cliches.
Good ol' Gama had a regression of character too, though not to the extent of the others. His character went from the bulky order-seeking giant to the giant of comic-relief that exists as Mako's straight man. Hardly an upgrade, if you ask me. Again, the character's personality is represented only in the line delivery and the character design. The script is as vanilla as you could imagine.
Of course, these leads to Mako's ****ing character as a whole who consistently removed all sense of tension within the show. She existed as Ryuuko's friend and as the universal comic relief. This falls into a conundrum as her character does not have much purpose with that comic relief. The show's cast already had the potential (never lived up to it, of course) to have many comedic interactions. Mako's character as comic relief is not needed in this case, as there isn't a need for comic relief, especially when the comedy is as terrible as Mako's. Thing is that Mako only relies on comic relief. It's fine to have her as Ryuuko's friend as that helps in integrating the main character into the world; however, her character existed only in long droughts to be "lolsorandumbXD" and only acted as a deus ex machina whenever the writers got themselves into a corner. Nothing interesting came from her existence, baring the Fight Club president episode.
And let's look at Tsumugu. Tsumugu's initial reveal is interesting because it reveals that life fibers can be beat by human methods, as well. It gives hope and possibly foreshadows a future in which the characters will have to resort to using these tactics. If only Trigger weren't so incompetent, though. Instead, Tsumugu is consistently portrayed as a useless jobber, much like the rest of the cast. In fact, Nudist Beach, an organization that was hyped up from the beginning of their reveal, was destroyed in a couple minutes in a single episode. All of the hype of their existence was nullified at that point and every moment pertaining to Nudist Beach before it is simply a waste of time. Even if Nudist Beach's weapons find use near the end, it's a needless backpedaling attempt. Nudist Beach was trained to fight life fibers, but were defeated by 3 star uniforms. It's absolutely bull**** that a handful of characters with absolutely no training with Nudist Beach's weapons somehow are able to hold off an army of faceless mooks that can take on three star outfits. It's especially aggravating when the Life Fiber Bullet never made its return. It's mocking to the viewer by showing us that they have weaponry that can deal serious damage, only to never use it again.
Same goes for the scissors, really. The series hypes the hell out of the scissors. Hell, they are one of the main themes of the show. In the end, Ryuuko finally unites the scissors. Joyous occasion, no? It would be if the scissors amounted to anything, which they didn't. Not only did the scissors not save the day, but vaguely defined and utterly preposterous willpower won. Chalk another one up to Useless Bull**** that Wasted Our Time and Amounted to Nothing.
Any attempts at decent or interesting compositions were completely thrown out the window and never heard from again after Satsuki went on her war against other schools. Seriously, **** never showed up ever again. Every background was either a brown demolished city-scape or the blue interior of some ship. It was boring, drab, and otherwise abysmal. The only staff member that actually gave a **** about that stuff was obviously Hiroshi Kobayashi, as his episodes were always miles better than the rest in these regards.
The animation in general is not even very good. You have maybe three or four scenes that were actually well animated. Combat is too often reduced to "she's too fast" speed lines bull**** while everything else is just talking heads or a sickening abuse of motion tweens that completely wore out their welcome after the second episode.
And let's talk about Kill la Kill's themes because they are just so well established. Oh wait, they ****ing aren't. The show can't decide on what it wants its central theme to be, and, as such, it leads to many potential plot threads or other plot points being completely contradicted by character actions. “Humans and life fibers can co-exist” is one of the many examples of the show squashing on its own hamhanded message. It's especially grating seeing as Ryuuko, the one that was supposed to represent this idea, had combined all the life fibers on Earth, including the only other sentient one (without its consent, mind you), into one Godrobe which was destroyed in the final battle. Not only did Ryuuko weaponize life fibers to the very end, but she also had the audacity to spout another theme that didn't even mesh with the context of the show.
There's a plethora of other issues such as the show continuing to treat Nui as a threat when she already jobbed horribly to Ryuuko, Ryuuko being incredibly uninteresting even after the script dipped all of its focus onto her, Ryuuko and Satsuki's rivalry having such a ****ty pay-off, every character that isn't Ryuuko being reduced to being Ryuuko's asskisser, and so much more. Bottom line is that the show is a terrible show that is only enjoyed by those that have hopped onto the bandwagon and have deluded themselves into believing that they're having fun when they aren't.

Now i was just gonna say something along the lines of "KLK was boring as ****, had **** writing, and had no redeeming values to it besides Hiroyuki Sawano doing the OST" but i think this works a bit better.

I cannot stress enough how Backmask is without doubt one of this site's greatest treasures. Godspeed, you magnificent bastard. Godspeed...
Personally, I like to view Kill la Kill like a Saturday morning cartoon. It's the kind of thing you're meant to watch while cramming spoonfuls of soggy Cheerios in your mouth; an unsophisticated, cheap, cartoonish, fast-paced but easy to follow and, all things considered, fairly innocent series with some, albeit lazy, unorthodox artwork. It's not the worst thing you can be watching when you want to unwind after a stressful day...
On a separate, completely unrelated note, Uchuu Kyoudai is somehow the most unexpectedly entertaining and endearing series I have had the pleasure to stumble upon in the past few months...

Started up Sky Girls, mostly to see if I want to add it to my Vividred/Strike Witches AMV I plan on doing. Also kinda curious how it compares to Strike Witches, especially considering how it released BEFORE Strike Witches did (and yet people still act like Strike Witches was the first of its genre. First to become super-popular, maybe.)
So far I've only seen ep. 1. I'll give my impressions after I've watched a bit more. Also on the last ep. of NGNL, and still watching Digimon Tamers.
2 months later and I'm stilll only on ep. 7 of Sky Girls....and Tamers is now on hold again.
I did manage to watch that last episode of NGNL, though!
.....I really need to start watching anime again. I'll NEVER get even half my "plan to watch" list done at this rate D:
Real quick initial impressions: so far Sky Girls is.....decent. The main story is just barely starting to take off, so it's mostly been introductions/character development so far. Not a lot of development, either. Eika-san is slightly less of a bitch (HAH!) and Karen-chan talked to a guy for the first time in her life.....sort of.... Really all that happened was she was forced into a handshake and then managed to squeak out a "thank you for finding my pen the other day". Better than nothing, I suppose. And it is more realistic than "I magically have no issues whatsoever now!" We'll see how the anime pans out once the story REALLY kicks off....after they introduce at least one more character....

Decided to put LotGH on hold for a while, so I can fully enjoy the last quarter, and marathoned through Dennou Coil as previously suggested.
All in all, definitely a good series that more people should get around to watching at some point. The cyber-action is solid, the cast is fun to follow (although the Satchiis get waaaay too little love...) and it has one of the best standalone episodes I have seen in anime in a long time (You know the one...)
http://wtfbot.net/pix/345.gif
My only significant qualm would be
The abundance of climaxes in the third part of the series. The final part of Dennou Coil, in which the biggest question of the series is meant to be revealed, has the horrible misfortune of starting immediately after what is arguably the best arc of the series; the Null invading Yuko's house and the gang rescuing Kenichi.
http://lh4.google.com/transientem/R3KzG_a2djI/AAAAAAAAAV4/_gQXYrmAq-k/s800/dennou_coil_nullillegalattack.jpg
You have this great, eerie and extremely suspenseful rescue, only for it to be immediately followed up by another rescue which tries desperately to one-up the previous arc, but just falls short. As a result, the actual ending, despite not even being flat-out bad or poorly executed, just doesn't seem as conclusive or satisfying as the end to the Kenichi rescue arc. A shame, really...
Still, I'd pretty much recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind a bit of a slower pace in their anime or who wouldn't mind checking out a good "near future"-kind of sci-fi.

About 12 episodes in with Psycho Pass. Great animation, good characters, good dub, semi-realistic future setting but the tech is still a bit farfetched.
At first I thought it was just a Minority Report ripoff (it still is a little bit) but it really sets itself apart after a few episodes.
No cliched anime tropes yet (though I am just halfway through) which is a welcome change of pace.
Giving it a solid 8/10

Decided to go ahead and try to marathon the rest of Sky Girls so I can move on to the next anime without putting yet another one on my "on-hold" list. Not sure what I'll watch next, but I'll probably want to watch something that has NOTHING to do with mecha or loli.......
And actually, I may end up dropping it anyway. I'm giving it a few more episodes, since I"m JUST starting to get into the main story (halfway through the series....), but....well, we'll see how it goes.
*edit* **** it, I'm dropping the series. 13 episodes through a 26 episode series and I'm only JUST getting into the story? If I absolutely MUST know how the battle agains the WORMS goes, I'll read up on it on a wiki or something. There's just nothing all that redeeming about this show.
I'm not a loli person, so a no-go on that. Mechas are only SLIGHTLY interesting to me, and these aren't really good mechas, so a no-go there as well. Soundtrack is ****, and the animation is borderline **** (if we're being generous....). Story, I don't know. Like I said I haven't actually gotten there yet due to horrendous pacing. Again, I'll wiki that **** if I feel I need to later. Characters aren't anything all that special. Karen is slightly different than what I've seen before, but not in a particuallarly fascinating way. After all these character development episodes, you'd think the characters would actually....you know....develop....
Overall, I see no real point in forcing myself to finish this. Even Strike Witches was better, and Strike Witches I only really liked for the battle scenes. Oh yeah, from what I can tell the battles in Sky Girls are mostly going to be (that's right, GOING to be. There's only been one real battle so far...) "damage the enemy a little bit to lure it to a safe altitude, then SUPER-SPECIAL-AWESOME-ONE-HIT-KILL-ATTACK GO!!!!!!" woohoo. so exciting.

It's okay, it's good for a laugh but story wise it doesn't really go anywhere. There's a pair of characters that are introduced and then disappear just as quickly and don't seem to have any problem going between the worlds, while our main cast is going on constantly about needing to save energy to warp back. Every villain is brutal until they're beaten then they're comical friends with their previous evil deeds completely ignored. Finally the minor character of the Land Lady flat out reveals she knows about all of them, yet no one ever brings the subject up again or questions who she is.
What I'm saying is the show needed another 13 episodes

About 10 episodes into K-On!
Reminds me of MLP quite a bit honestly (focus on friendship and roles within the group)
The details on the instruments are outstanding. (Love those Fenders)
I do like how the episodes are chronological and there is no fan service to speak of apart from instrument fingering close ups (like I said, the attention to detail is off the charts)

The Unlimited Blade Works (TV) anime has been ****ing awesome so far.
So far it seems like a straight sequel to Fate/Zero, they cut out a lot of exposition and focus more on the pacing and introducing the characters and their central motivations. Kiritsugu plays a larger role in Shirou's early memories we see more than in the VN and original anime. We haven't gotten a giant expose on what the Holy Grail War is yet, which leads me to wonder when it will be covered if at all. (If they do a massive exposition dump, it better by Kotomine, and it better take up half an episode. I need the orgasmic sensation that is Joji Nakata's voicework and exposition dumping.)
I also get a better, immediate feel for Shirou's character as a whole as opposed to generic shonen protag as well as his character flaws that is his stubbornness and never tell someone "no" when they need help attitude. Same with Rin and her own motivations. The side characters are also developed well. Taiga is bombastic and awesome as expected, albeit in small portions. She is sprinkled in 'just right' to keep her from being a character fillibuster or to keep her from feeling like pointless comic relief, like she does in the original anime and portions of the original VN. There is plenty amount of comedic interactions but more ground to earth and not overtly ridiculous. It feels almost natural and not too ridiculous.
The Animation and Soundtrack though is ****ing gorgeous as expected of a big-budget UFOtable production, even topping Fate/Zero's. The Fights are incredibly fast-paced, insanely choreographed and carries a dynamic weight and feel to them which makes it feel like the viewer is actually watching how a fight between demi-gods were to happen in suburbia. This may be because I don't watch much anime, but as of this point, I honestly think, that between the choreography, music, stunning animation, character fluidity, it probably is some of the best fighting I have ever seen. Its quick, to the point, looks absolutely stunning, keeps you thoroughly entertained, carries a dynamic weight and tension to it, and doesn't drag on. Hell even the "fight" (if you can call it that) between Lancer and Shirou was pretty well done, you definitely got the feel and tension that our hero was up against something he could not win against just through choreography and animation alone.
The Animation outside of that is in a sense "cool", its color palette gives a cool, brisk sense of winter or autumn. Everything, from the backgrounds, to the ****ing clouds and sky is top notch and well crafted. (The ****ing budget on this thing must be immense) I haven't seen any wonky CG cars yet, or anything that was jarring. (I'm sure there were, but I didn't notice them) Definitely the show with the best animation this season, judging by the first two episodes.
SPEAKING of the first two episodes. Both were 45 minutes long, each. Granted both lead up to the same point and tell the same events, albeit from different perspectives. Which considering UBW is both Shirou AND Rin's stories, it works out pretty well dedicating the two opening episodes to the both of them and fleshing them out for the viewers. So its a trend that may not continue in the series (hope it does though!) but it definitely was worth noting.
I'm curious to see how the story plays out and what, if any, other route sprinklings would be sprinkled onto UBW and if it will play out differently with Fate/Zero as already existing context. So far, I am loving every minute of UBW.

That reminds me, while I've endured through... Whatever the hell was the thing Studio DEEN tried to pass as the Fate route, I haven't even so much as bothered checking out the new adaptation of my favorite route/glorious MAN-fest that is UBW (say what you will, but Lancer and Archer are clearly the heroines of that path. Manly, manly heroines...)

Watched the first episode of UBW and it was alright. I think the first episode of Fate/ Zero was much stronger and I'm not a huge fan of the characters yet. I never read the visual novel, but so far I don't see what all the hype is about, however, I will continue to watch it with high hopes.
Also I am already done with this ****:

I also watched the first 3 episodes of Terraformers and I will most likely drop it. The only thing it seems to have going for it, all the gore and shock value, is lost when the whole screen it edited black or corpses have black circles where heads should be.

Finally all the animes I wanted to watch for fall season are airing, and there is a great deal more than I originally planned...
Selector Spread Wixoss Playing out much like the first season (infected) with all the dark plot and drama
Denki-Gai no Honya-san Pretty awesome comedy in the vein of stuff like Working!, I love all the characters and how unique some of them are
Gugure! Kokkuri-san Yet another awesome comedy with strong characters
Nanatsu no Taizai Pretty good so far, I actually enjoy it more than Fairy Tail, both being by the same creator
Log Horizon 2 Didn't start off too good for me, the time jumps were off-putting, but its getting back on track
Cross Ange:Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo One of the rare times where I actually enjoy a mecha anime. The main character is annoying though, with her causing the deaths of many, not caring about it and constantly complaining
World Trigger Interesting, one of the ones I watched on a whim and didn't mind the plot or characters
Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete I normally don't like harem animes, but something about this one interested me, that and a girl got hit by a bus in the first episode
Donten ni Warau Good fight scenes and large male cast, great for me
Garo: Honoo no Kokuin I haven't seen the live action drama this is based on, but the anime has been great so far
Sora no Method Well drawn anime that will probably pull some feels at the end
Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji Unusual romance anime with sadistic main guy. Its alright for what it is
Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken Pretty funny short anime about living with an Otaku husband
Orenchi no Furo Jijou Another pretty funny short anime, but this time about living with a merman in your bathtub
Akatsuki no Yona More fight scenes with mostly male cast. Main character is a bit annoying but will hopefully develop better later on
Coffin Princess Chaika 2 Same as first season with the eyebrow loli. Good so far
Parasyte Good so far, I like the lack of extreme censorship. I'm wondering how well they are going to cover the manga though
Shirobako Working for an anime company sure does seem stressful
Mushishi 2 Part 2 Continuation from the first half of the second season. Still the same well drawn, calm anime as ever
Sanzoku no Musume Ronja Finally a Ghibli anime, go watch it if you like Ghibli stuff, its pretty good
TERRAFORMARS dropped until the blu ray is released. The censorship just got too stupid
Sir Fluffykins
10-19-2014, 05:12 PM
Log Horizon 2, back to "game tactics" which is good, though I need to point out the irony that the show, with such a heavy focus on game mechanics, takes place In a "real" world. I strangely only watch the show because I'm interested more in if Akatsuki can get Shiroe to take a hint, then whatever they're doing.
Next episode is all about her, so hooray. Kinda weird, how Episode 1 showed future them "both defeated" on Christmas eve and after 3 episodes there's just 6 days to Christmas. That's like 2 months in 3 episodes.
I also prefer Sword Art Online 2 going for some mundane adventuring. From what I understand this will only be 3 episode with the rest being this arc these Reddit people having been wanting for ages.

Attack on Titan Part 2. Just finished the episode where they lure the female Titan into the forest and show the flashback of Eren and the spoon. The death count was crazy, maybe I only notice because everyone has a fairly unique face, so the deaths stick out more.

Well I had a few things spoiled, but there's still enough of the show that's interesting. Not the greatest anime in history or anything, but IMHO not terrible...it just kind of ends with no resolution, like most anime based on ongoing manga.

1-14 was fantastic. Great character development. Strong female character in Sinon (asuna was great in SAO arc 1, then reverted to a typical damsel in distress in arc 2). Great story that diverted from a fantasy tale and more in line as a post-apocalyptic mystery.

Well Ace Combat Zero isn't exactly about being a merc pilot. 4 fits that bill a bit more, but make sure you've played all other Ace Combat games as well brah. 3 you might want to import or otherwise emulate with a translator note with it. The western versions were greatly butchered in comparison to the JP version which had animated cutscenes by Production I.G., voiced briefings, in game voice acting, branching plotlines etc..

So I searched and found Area 88 which was on my list for years and turns out...MERCENARY FIGHTER PILOTS! BINGO!
I finished that and went "well now I want a game about being a mercenary fighter pilot!"
Ace Combat Zero the Belkan war fit that very well....after I bought it from the charity shop I worked in going "Oooh ace combat" which is not normally Mercenary pilots.

I downloaded the 2004 series. 12 episodes. Looks like it was made in the 80's though I'm guessing that was the idea. The characters are dressed like it's the 80's. The most modern aircraft on there is an F-14 and it's 40 years old now.

It is set during the 1980s.
The original manga had it's run during the early to mid 80s.

Of course it'll look like it's from the 80s.

Now if only more people would follow that trend...
I played and completed Ace combat 1 and 2, missed 3 4 and 5 before loving 6 and Zero. While feeling disgusted that Horizon is called a game.

However after hearing about AC 3 and such I am now even more intrigued.
If you get the itch again...
Jormungand.
About a mercenary company whose owner has global plans for the profits. VERY good dub as well since speaking in English makes sense contextually.

3 was my first. Haven't played the other installments except 6, AH and Infinity sadly.
3 I picked up in some 2nd hand shop when I was a kid. Understood jack **** of it when I first played it. It was only a couple of years ago that I found out just exactly how much content was changed and scrapped in the western versions so it genuinely was and still is a mismanaged mess. Still haven't taken the time to dive into all the details and plot lines concerning 3.
Assault Horizon I give some credit for trying new things but my god that game was a train wreck. Can't believe I actually have a limited edition of it lying here.

I watched it.... Think I made a mini-review for it in this very thread, even.
Was pretty good overall. That's really saying something considering I was watching it hoping there would be dogfighting....and was NOT disappointed by the complete and total lack of dogfighting (which would've made perfect sense to me if I actually read the synopsis BEFORE starting the anime....)
Not what I wanted, but I still quite enjoyed it.

There's a team that's working on a fan-translation of the Japanese AC 3. Been awhile since I've checked they're progress, but they've been at it for years and still don't have anything playable....
Then again they're fans doing it for free in their spare time, so it's not like they have the resources to put out a translation in, like, 5 days or something.
And yeah, AH was pretty horrible. I liked that they tried something new, but that something new was horrendous and should have NEVER been tried. I also liked how they have DLC skins now. Wish they had more than just Idolm@ster, though....

Lets see I've got a bit of a list I've been working on at a slower pace than I'd like, but that"s what 11 hour work days do to you.
Recently Finished:
The IDOLM@STER MOVIE - To the Other Side of the Light (Really enjoyed watching this, had great pacing and the story slowed well, and was not ready for the amazing cinematography and choreography in the final concert scene)
Ghost in the Shell (1995)
Ghost in the Shell - Innocence
Ga-rei Zero (Also read the Manga)
Kara no Kyoukai (Rewatch)
Nagi no Asukara (One of the worst things I've watched recently, not really sure why i finished it, most of the time i was just making fun of it)
Currently Watching:
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (Got bored and decided to actually watch all of Ghost in the Shell after seeing bits and pieces of it over the years)
TERRA FORMERS (Was about to drop it because of the censorship but they are releasing uncensored versions so i think I'll pick it back up)
Sailor Moon Crystal (Figured i might as well)
Akatsuki no Yona
Parasyte - The maxim
Hitsugi no Chaika Avenging Battle (Didn't care too much for the first season but i said **** it and stared season 2)
Amagi Brilliant Park (Don't really know why i like this one as much as i do, but i do)
Sora no Method (Meh)
Girlfriend (Beta) (I think this has lesbians, not sure yet, and im impressed that they made the exchange student actually speak ****ty Japanese)
Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru (Kinda "dark and edgy" magical girl thing like Madoki)
Shirobako (Nice insight into how anime is made)
Gundam Build Fighters Try (Loved the first Build Fighters, hoping they live up to that with this season)
Cross Ange - Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo (God this is horrible)
Grisaia no Kajitsu
Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu (One of the worst shows ever made, ever)
Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works
Future Plans:
Hellsing Ultimate (Actually have all of it dubbed now so i think i might actually finish it)
Psycho-Pass (Looks halfway interesting)
Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. 2nd Gig
Ghost in the Shell Arise

It really isn't. It tries to avoid the predominant cliche in the genre of "untrained kid in super prototype beats trained soldiers," but the execution is so flawed that I would much rather have the untrained kid. In a sense, every military is as impotent as could be, with the allied military being comparable to faceless mooks in Dynasty Warriors' easiest difficulty setting. The full extent of their military prowess is to stand in place, usually in a straight line of sorts kinda-sorta pointing their weapons at the enemy. When it comes time for the enemy to attack, the allied military just stands gawking at the attack only to become the next casualty. Then comes the main characters who solve the problem by utilizing either a strategy that any soldier worth their salt would have thought of (the entirety of the Hellas fight) or some contrived tactic that frankly shouldn't work in the first place (lolsteam explosions can destroy giant robots, bullets changing direction due to extreme heat and so on). It is a textbook example of how not to illustrate "brains over brawn" in that it utilizes a false sense of "brains" when in reality the situation would have been a none-issue if the military was backed by decent writing. Worst yet, the show plays itself as seriously as possible, which is insulting to the viewer when you have the antagonistic faction being comprised of glorified chuu2 roleplayers, a laughably ****ty military, and protagonists with the depth of a kiddie pool.
Also, it has Sawano Hiroyuki's worst OST yet.

Finally finished Legend of the Galactic Heroes, a series about manly men and women (but, really, mostly men...) discussing politics, making witty social commentaries and, occasionally, duking it out in the deepest reaches of space.
http://i.minus.com/iGfCGNW2qrjsO.jpg
To be frank, this series has its fair share of glaring faults; first of all, it's so. F***ing. Long. The first fifth of a series shouldn't be this damn slow, especially if that fifth is 20 bloody episodes long! Second, the stupid, whole "Terraism Church" matter felt so out of place with the show's general feel, not to mention that it was handled pretty sloppily and definitely overstayed its welcome throughout the series. Honestly, Rubinsky or, hell, even Trunihlt would have sufficed as the "men pulling the strings" wihout having to resort to the cheap "religious sect of fanatics"... Lastly, final two episodes felt so depressingly weak compared to the rest of this mastodontic series, and hardly make for a satisfying ending (with the notable exception of the very last scene).
Other than that, though, it really is worth a watch. Whenever the space battles aren't just "Cut to one of the fleets shooting. Cut to members of the other fleet exploding while they shoot back. Yang/Reinhard take a sip of tea", the animation can be really gorgeous at times, despite its age. The sheer diversity in the cast is something that is actually extremely impressive, especially when you compare it to other series nowadays (Openings that are 100% in Engrish? Not a single needless Japanese guy whose sole purpose is to boost up that good ol' Nippon nationalism? Black people that are not merely walking vessels for cheap American stereotypes (on second thoughts, I'm not too sure exactly what's going on with Mashengo, so I'll just leave it at that...)? What kind of strange universe have I stumbled in?!) And, at the end of the day, you really have to give this series credit for the length it goes to give such a large sense of scale, enhancing the whole "historical" aspect, to the whole series.
Still, the true beauty of the series really starts to shine when it walks into "Classical Tragedy" territory; the entire series is, to be fair, extremely predictable. It's full of all the cliches; secondary characters suddenly saying goodbye to their loved ones before a dangerous mission, "two days to retirement" statements, "Don't worry, I won't die..." promises and what have you. And it just works so damn well. It's not a series about being surprised by sudden twists in plot, but about that cold dread and sense of inevitability (as both Yang and the narrator keep pointing out, "History goes on") you feel as events that you know are going to happen, whether you like it or not, unfold before you.
All in all, a great watch, though I wouldn't recommend it to most people simply due to its occasionally slow pace and sheer size...

I took all that as how sloppy and out of place such things are in REAL life. The amount of times you find religion to be the basis of a heavy political war in history is astonishing. Sure alot of the ending with such and others was badly and quicklys swept under the carpet but you gotta end eventually. However yours points on that and other parts are not untrue.
I was watching Bakemonogatari....man despite the amount of times that anime has some great looking shots I have found soooooo many animation flaws. Shadows coming and going, details changing, the weirdest one was a 2D fence not disapear when a car drove in front of it....instead becoming a new decal across the car as it drove past. These Korean animators are ****ing slacking!

Don't know how well this sits with me... Personally, I enjoyed the anime more than the manga (very faithful adaptation, plus the higher budget allows to expand on some gags). However, after the part that was adapted into a series, the manga sort of takes a nosedive and starts to wander dangerously into a more straight gag comedy, as opposed to the more relatable and, therefore, cringeworthy first part that made the series so interesting to begin with...

Finished Diebuster (Damn, shows really seem to go by quickly after you finish a 110 episode-long series...), a series featuring a Banchou-bot, kids wearing headphone-shaped stickers on their foreheads and even MORE astronomical objects being used as weapons than the first series!!
http://i48.fastpic.ru/big/2013/0501/ec/553c1d76cd5dac281d73fd7a2ab91cec.jpg
F**k yeah!
Well, you guys definitely weren't kidding about the whole "It is pretty much completely different from Gunbuster"... While both series share a really messed up sense of pacing (case in question for Diebuster, the transition between episode 4 and episode 5...), the difference between the two is huge, to say the least (I mean, come on Gainax! Gunbuster was pretty much one the founding fathers of the boobie-bounce! What's with all the static tits 'n nips now?!).
Still, I gotta say I really enjoyed the differences/correlations between the two; the robots being of the "Giant, over-the-top" category as opposed to Gunbuster's "Realistic" approach was a very nice touch. Also, in typical Gunbuster fashion, the final episode was beyond kick-ass (that's more than what even Legend of the Galactic Heroes can have luxury saying...), which I always find to be a refreshing thing; too many series wimp out when it comes to the final episode, especially nowadays...
So, how does it measure up against its predecessor?
From an overall point of view, Diebuster is without doubt the best of the two; while many of the characters aren't all that deep or interesting and quite a few episodes are rather slow and unimportant, none of them are really as obnoxiously bad like on some occasions in Gunbuster. Also, this having the same director of FLCL, the whole "Childhood to Adulthood" theme, while not even half as decently explored as in FLCL, adds a bit more genuine depth to the series.
On the other hand, when Gunbuster shines, it shines hard. Don't get me wrong; as a whole, it's pretty damn bad. Still, I'm going to go as far as to say that, as of now, episodes 4 and 6 of Gunbuster are still way up there with some of the best episodes of a mecha series I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. Not even Diebuster can top that...
Whelp, time to move on to another series. I'm starting to get a bit tired of mecha/space operas for the time being, so I guess a change of setting might be nice (looks like I'll be putting off Cowboy Bebop for another month or so, then...)
I'm guessing either Eden of the East or f**k-motherin' Nanoha A's...

Also the scientist guy saying that the male players, who were playing girls when they came to the world, are becoming more feminine "naturally" and that flavour text is causing issues and the whole world is expanding. That is all very interesting stuff but then you have the scene at the end throwing another curve-ball and you're left wondering where the show is actually going (which is good if it pays off in the end, but how many anime have managed to do that?).
We're up to episode 18 of SAO2 and the start of a new arc. Lots of info dumping, a rather touching moment and a strange ominous feeling across the episode. The art failed in places but overall, one of the better episodes. One thing I like about SAO2 is giving the idea that the characters are doing stuff we don't see. One thing I don't like is when they spend most of an episode talking about a new plot relevant character we've never seen before, making it obvious the character is important, "Oh, have you heard about that character you've never heard of?" "the character I've never heard of?", "oh yes, the character you've never heard of, but whom these 3 characters and I have already met", "Are you guys talking about that character she's never heard of? I've already fought them", "What a coincidence, I too have fought the character she's never heard of! Lets all talk about the character she's never heard of!"

I'm caught up on Akame ga Kill, which I don't particularly like, but I appreciate. It's unapologetic action schlock, but I respect how the writers are humanizing both sides. I often find myself pulling for individuals on both night raid and jaegers . Early on it felt like the capital was just going to be painted as "the most evil governing body in history... no, seriously you guise" but as the episodes have developed, it might not be so black and white. I'm not looking for a recreation of the wheel, brilliant series here. But it seems to know what it's doing and at least delivers that.

The "ebul gobermint" is played pretty damn rough in Akame ga Kill. The bright side of the government has, what, Wave, Budou, Ran, and Bors. The dark side of the government has the Prime Minister, Esdese, Kurome, Seryu, Stylish, that evil scientist guy from Zero, Champ, Cosmina, Dorothea, Enshin, Izou, Shura, Bolic, Gebaze, Aria and her family, and Bach. Just compare those characters.
You have Wave and Budou that are focused on JUSTICE, Ran who was former school teacher, and Bors who was trying to be a good father. On the other hand, you have...
Champ who raped and murdered countless innocent children, including the Ran's students and Bors's daughter on top of Bors's grave
Shura who went on a rape and murder spree across the entire city, which even involved a tag-teaming Bors's wife with Enshin and subsequently killing her on his grave.
Cosmina who also went of murdering and raping people indiscriminately.
Bach who lied to three little girls and turned them into sex slaves.
Stylish that would trade torturous poisons for male prisoners
Esdese who allows her men to rape and pillage entire villages.
Bolic who would freely manipulate religious followers into sex.
Need I go on? When it comes to the sides involved, the Revolutionary Army has been consistently shown to be infallible, yet the "good" aspects of the Empire have been sparse and given hardly any screentime. Meanwhile, entire pages and chapters dedicated to how evil the Empire is.
The story is and will likely continue to be completely and grossly black and white.

Fair. The case by case does look slanted when typed out like that, but to me the little moments in the jaeger bonding episodes were enough to cloud my rooting interest. At the end of the day, regardless of the side they're on, they're all murderers and assassins. The fact that at least a little time was taken to shed light on who these players are and why they believe what they are doing is right makes some of the match-ups, at least in my book, toss-ups in who I want to win. Bols, Wave, Saryu, Esdeth & Kurome especially. You seem to know a lot more about the story than I do, Backmask, so maybe I'm just not looking far enough in. I just hit play and drink beers.

I actually found SAOII episode 18 to have a strange ominous feeling to it. Like another sex fiend was about to appear at any second. Which is odd as the whole thing was a weird flashback to them buying the SAO house, then flash forward to the present where they do homework in it, to the weird scene where Asuna is getting married off to rich rapists (didn't the father learn from the last time this was a ****ty idea?) then finally the whole "this guy is an important character" exposition.

Nope. I meant what I said. Everything after Season I Arc I was good, but there was less at stake. They got close with Season II Arc I, though. I see the second arc in SAO seasons as a means of winding down the season and tidying up loose ends and preparing for the next season, which is not a bad idea.

Not bad just grossly inconsistent. I totally adored season 1 arc 1 and then arc 2 fell flat on its face and completely undid the strong character that was asuna turning her into a typical damsel in distress. Season 2 arc 1 was back on point with lives at stake, a more focused cast, and strong character development in sinon. Arc 2 is just plain boring.

Mind Season II Arc II isn't finished, but I understand your point. It's a matter of taste and tolerance. I can tolerate it because I can very easily shut my eyes to tropes and clichés and because I can see it as merely a part of the whole.

In the manga you've got the Big Bad attacking the "Kings Palace" in this "Final Battle" that's already been going for something like 2 years. Jesus, the latest chapter is a fight between all the "strongest-fighters" who just happen to all be fairly new characters, Ichigo hasn't done jack-sh*t this whole time. Inoue has done more, because she shielded Ichigo once this arc.
Also, Bad Guy kills all his fighters to resurrect his fighters as stronger Angels and Big Bad apparently also gets stronger with each Quincy that dies so...why would any of these guys want to be Quincies?.
They've got angel wings and everything. What's the story?
Why should I care this neo-Nazi, angel themed, ethenically diverse group is murdering soul society?
Where did they even come from?
If SS beat this guy to death 1000 years ago, how is he far stronger than them now?
How'd this dead guy even build up an army able to take out the after life?
Why do souls have organic bodies with viral spots, blood and organs?
Why doesn't Ichigo have to go into spirit form anymore? When did he stop doing that?
Hell, why was he the only one of his group who had to do that in the first place!?
If an imbalance of "souls" will cause the destruction of all reality, so ugly Shinigami dude had to murder a few thousand souls to save the balance...where do all the souls go?
If we're dealing with a group of human-Nazi-angels using God-tier powers to destroy the afterlife, how is Ichigo, his huge-boobed girlfriend and his Mexican-Japanese friend (plus a returning fourth guy who was useless the first time) who punches stuff going to stop them?
If their glasses friend went up with Big Bad when he went to the Soul Palace why hasn't he been seen since going up.
You have time to read and analyze Bleach, but not Shamo? For shame, Fluffy.

Yeah, SAO has **** for villains. Hardly believable. It just uses rape for schlock or villains who are so cardboard cut-out they are hardly believable and downright laughable. The women are all just pitiful damsels in distress needing to be saved by Kirito from these sick ****s.

I think I like the mother-daughter scene because it has a bit more depth. There's more going on then what's being said. Asuna is something like 30 minutes late for Dinner, but the mother still waits for her and doesn't start until she's there, also there's nothing really wrong with what she says, only getting flustered when Asuna mentions Shugou. It's like the mother is doing what's she thinks is best so Asuna is well off, ignoring that Asuna still has dreams for the future. Also she investigated Kirito (or whatever his real name is) and doesn't approve, so I like her XD

Funny enough, Me!Me!Me! acts as a blatant critique on the otaku/hikkimori culture as well as the rampant consumerism prevalent in the industry, yet most people seem to be keen on discussing how sexy it was, which further reinforces the point of the animation.
I haven't watched Hill Climb Girl, yet.

A bit late to the show Backmask, it's been mentioned in a few threads already, but thanks and what I've seen (on youtube no doubt) is people discussing the videos message(s), which is funny, because a lot of the video is basically tits and this is by ol Anno, the king of "I hate Otaku now buy all my junk"

How? It had Yoshiyuki Sadamoto doing the character designs with the same visual design direction that can be found in Rebuild. If anything, it looked like a Studio Khara product (which it was). The only general similarity I could spot would be the CG, and that's because Khara did the CG for Kill la Kill.

When you put it like that, I dunno, I just felt that way. Also Yoshiyuki Sadamoto designs? Seriously? Doesn't look like it, but I guess that's a good thing as I like the designs.

Dude, you post an image, make an out of context remark, google image search gives NO RESULTS and the only reason I know it's Dream Eater Merry is because of the f**king eyes! How would I know why this girl has you excited if I didn't guess that right? How? HOW!? *burstsintoflames!*
Okay I'll stop now. Need to see which character had the triangle eyes, can't remember much about DEM

The remark wasn't out of context. It was in response to the newest occurrences in the chinese comic. Out of context would be me denouncing the existence of pumpkin pasta while posting that image. This really should be a difficult thing to comprehend.
****, context clues should be enough to find the image itself.
つづく should be a dead give away that, hey, this page is clearly at the end of the chapter. Meaning that the hundreds of pages that you have to shift through to actually find this is narrowed down to ****ing 75 scanlated pages.
Let's narrow down looking through these 75 pages. The post mentions anticipation, meaning, there is a wait involved for the next chapter. Common ****ing logic would dictate that it is largely possible that this is a very recent chapter, if not the most recent chapter.
You can do the rest, I assume? Or do I need to hold your goddamn hand through that, too?

Decided to take a break from the long list of Master-race anime series I still need to go through before I eventually OD on them and start having unreasonable standards on every piece of animation I come across, so I decided to pick Chuunibyou...
Walked in expecting "K-On without depth perception", left with "fleshed-out Toradora".
http://40.media.tumblr.com/bcc7c6db809a46019a034610890c82d2/tumblr_na7faivBz91sqqx06o1_400.png
All in all, I'd say that Chuunibyou's greatest strength is probably its sense of focus. You can tell that it really sets itself a goal from the beginning and runs with it all the way through, regardless of its faults (such as the inevitable cheese-filled final act that we see in every standard rom-com ever made). When it comes to series where romance is the focus, way too often we end up with ADHD-plagued visual novel adaptations or original series that seem to be unable to concentrate on a core relationship, and constantly end up throwing false flags and excessive distractions all over the place along way.
The plot is okay, the characters are pretty cute (although, to be fair, though, this is KyoAni we're talking about, the company that is so obsessed with cuteness that its ****s are probably coated by a thick layer of saccharine...) and the animation, especially the movement, is well-polished (big fan of the ass-physics here...). Chuunibyou even one-ups the very similar Toradora thanks to the interesting main theme, the "only about 75% pointless" secondary characters and the notable lack of annoyingly ungRietful heroines...
All in all, I'd say it's a standard but solid "boy meets girl" rom-com. Nothing really stands out enough to make it anything more than a "it's good, I guess", but it doesn't have any particularly glaring faults and it plays the formula well.
Recommendable, but only if there's nothing better on the list.
(Also, despite the picture, I am never planning on watching the 2nd season within my lifetime. Only disappointment and rage await down that road...)

Rewatching Black Lagoon. After that it'll be Jormungand again.
I'm having trouble getting into new anime.
Anybody familiar with BL and Jormungand know of any similar shows?
^ Michiko and Hatchin. Kind of. It's about criminals in South America being involved in very shady dealings, but in terms of pacing and overall theme, I must say it's really closer to something like Samurai Champloo, due to the lower body count.
FORDboy357

I don't really care about body count and love anything by Watanabe. Is it set in fairly modern times?
Yes, it seems to be the modern day in this series. There are televisions and cars.
Then again if they have cars and televisions in Brazil it might be the future.

xxxHolic story/character wise was pretty spiffy. The animation work/art style was....unusual, though that is mostly due to using the manga's style.
