Was watching Druaga as of late. First season was good. Not great, but enjoyable to watch. Second season... No, just no. I'm now watching Initial D, which is cool stuff since I've been really into cars now.

And I was rewatching Welcome to the NHK with my dad last night. he was just finishing it when i jumped in. he said that he liked it for a lot of the same reasons i did. i always love that feeling i get when i rewatch something. i hate how counterproductive it is, but it always makes me like stuff so much more.

I just started Clannad. I think it's a sweet show. I won't put it up to the same standards as Cowboy Bebop or Miyazaki's work, because it's just not the same caliber.....it's very good for what it is. Also, it's nice to see a male lead who isn't a dick or a spineless wimp.

Im on chapter 30 of DW. I love the characters and the art but I get annoyed when it turns into a fighting manga. And the whole controlling their blood power is kinda dorky and unoriginal. Its still good enough for me to eventually finish it so I was exaggerating when I said it sucks.

Watching Deadman Wonderland, C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control, and the new season of Doctor Who which are all awesome. I watched the first episode of Ao no Exorcist and then decided to rewatch Yu Yu Hakusho instead, so I'm most the way through the dark tournament. I just rewatched Ga Rei Zero and Madoka, because we had a group that wanted to watch them and they were short enough to finish in a night each. I've also watched a couple episodes of Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai and so far there's not much to say, it looks like it could be worth a shot to keep going.

As for me, I watched the second season of Darker Than Black yesterday. Gotta say, first time in a LONG time that I've been sad to see a show end. But I was glad it was over at the same time. 12 episodes is a good length. I would have been happier though had the ending not been COMPLETE ****!

Oh, alright. Well I finished Someday's Dreamers and Kamichu yesterday. And all I can say is THANK GOD! Third attempt to watch Dreamers and I've been technically watching Kamichu for months now. I had the same problem with both of them. Very childish plots that are just stupid when you try to watch them as an adult. However, I had a ton of fun watching Dreamers with my dad and making fun of it! :D

Ugh, just spent the last 11 hours watching Toaru Majwhatever no Index. That was a disappointment. I was at least expecting a bunch of nice fights, but nope. I even stopped reading the subtitles for the last three episodes. I guess it wasn't all bad though. Him fighting Balrog outside his apartment in the second episode and Misaka kicking that soda machine were both pretty cool moments. But I have to go to work in 3 hours. So I think I'm going to get some sleep now. :sweatdrop:

yeah they ran out of budget for the pain fight, because they paced it out kind of badly and didn't spend their budget in the right way. You can use a low budget as an excuse to just make things awesome and stylish... they did not.

Don't. Railgun is more of a slice of life with some action. It features Misaka, Lesbian girl, and two whores. Just skip it and watch the second season of Index because you won't be missing anything.

yeah when i first saw this i thought this might have been a troll by tailedfox [site] but aparantly i heard explanations that the batle was "exetremely" fast so its looks that way.
the most funnyest part was that 1 pain was beated with 1 rasengan,in this batle he was bashed few times with a stone pillar and he [for **** know some reason] just got up from the earth as he was lying down underground.

It's better, but still kinda follows the same pacing. Also, the last few episodes are pretty much Accelerator focused, so you won't have to deal with Touma's moral speeches as much.

Touma's moral speeches are still in there, but there aren't as many. Also, be prepared because JC Staff, which is the company that made the anime, ****ed up a bit with the dialogue. Hell, they made it sound like a character wanted to destroy science because of a roller coster accident.

Just started RahXephon. I've gotten about halfway through Samurai Champloo, and I am still watching Haibane Renmei and Clannad. Four series at at time is good, along with the occasional movie.

Lucky Star is one of those things that you either love or hate, yeah I know every time someone says that a few people who fall in the middle step up but it really is polarizing.

Exactly right. But mainly the reason those people hate it so much is because so many people think it's the greatest show ever made. I know i used to despise Lucky Star because people wouldn't shut up about it! Now that I haven't heard or seen stuff about it in ages I'm a little more ok with it.

I had trouble grasping how these 3-foot-tall children could possibly be in high school. I honestly only watched the "Lucky Channel" segment at the end, I mean at least that had some giggles at the beginning and end.

From what I've seen of it, it seems pretty derivative of Azumanga Daioh.

If you think about it, you'll notice that Lucky Star also has one girl out of them all who wears full-leg tights rather than socks, just like Yomi. She even looks quite a bit like Yomi.

It could just be a tribute, in the same way I see plenty of tributes to Evangelion in RahXephon, but I don't think the show stands up too well against Azumanga if you compare the two.

I think I would have a more optimistic outlook toward shows like AD and LS if they wernt spammed so much in AMV Hell 1-4. same with Evangelion for that matter, it was just a cluster**** of clips only using those 3 animes and I still dont understand the appeal.

I mean I can understand why there were alot of clips using Elfen Lied. THAT was a good show! gore, frustration, hate, love, prejudice, gore and just short enough so that it doesnt turn to **** when it got mushy.

I just got done watching High School of the Dead and it's OVA... its okay. Music wise it paid a lot of homages to other Zombie Movies, in the first episode it had Remix of "In the House-In a Heartbeat" from 28 Days Later. I didn't mind the "Girl service" ( I will admit it got old after-awhile though) and it tried to make us English...well... speak Engrish, lol.

The OVA was the best part, the Kicker at the end was ****ing hilarious. And the Yuri between Rei and Saeko... :praise: Considering the events leading up to the "kiss" I would imagine they both lost their virginity...

Now... which anime to watch next...

HOTD had some very creepy fanservice.

Lucky star was OK. Nothing more. The live action skits at the end were fascinating, because some of the environments look awful familiar. It appears that volcanic islands tend to look similar.

Japanese live action... sheesh.

Right now watching The Vision of Escaflowne. It passes the time nicely.
Also: Detective Conan - when the mood strikes. Already watched like 30 eps of that. It's almost like Colombo sometimes.
Saki: you need to be drunk to watch that. It also has a weird yuri slant. Watch it for the ridiculously overblown mahjong games, those are funny. The yuri is contrived and tacked on. Honest yuri is good for a barrel of laughs, contrived yuri is good for causing headaches.

Right now I'm watching Stardriver: Kagayaki no Takuto. Up to episode 17 and it's still a beautiful piece of work. The fights are all done in this "Zero Time" and the mech battles look like something out of Gurren Lagann. Needless to say, it's very flashy. Also when the main character refers to himself as the Galactic Pretty Boy, you know it's not your normal anime.

I watched one episode of "Sound of the Skies". So far it's a bit disappointing; it feels much more derivative than any of the reviews have made it out to be. And the animation is terrible, even if the art is pretty. If only Ghibli had gotten their hands on it they could have made a masterpiece....too bad Ghibli does not make anime for television.

Has anybody seen the rest of it? Is it at all worth watching? I'll just stick with Haibane Renmei and RahXephon unless this show REALLY picks up.

Miyazaki needs to do what Satoshi Kon did and make his equivalent of "Paranoia Agent".
It'd probably be quite good, and it might even raise the bar on quality standards for television just a bit.

It's funny. We'll get stuff from Netflix and my dad will just watch it without me. Like he'll be watching the second disc of something downstair and i'll be watching the first disc up in my room. Anyways, for some odd reason my dad actually likes True Tears...? So I guess I'm going to try and finish that up with him tonight. and i'd really like to the get through the rest of Natsume here soon.

Edit: Ok that ending for True Tears sucked. He randomly ended up with the wrong girl and they barely even had my favorite girl in the show at all. She had about a total of 10 minutes in the entire show dedicated to her. What a load of crap. But overall it wasn't as horrible as I originally expected. So whatever. ON TO THE NEXT SHOW!

And I'm not sure if I'd call it hentai; from what I've heard, Kite and Mezzo forte the anime equivalents of 70s era X-Rated films. There's sex, and very graphic sex, but the point of the film is not sex (which is really what sets hentai aside from all other anime).

Just watched the Read Or Die OVA. I would highly recommend it, but I must warn you that there is no backstory, and that some people are highly bothered by that.

I also finished RahXephon and came away with mixed feelings. I will still say I like it, and I loved it at points. I just wish I could say I loved every minute of it, and that it entirely held up to that wonderful expectation I got from the first two episodes.

Also, I wish I hadn't been stuck watching streams; it's a much better experience watching anime on an actual TV.

Now I'm looking for something else, and I may try to watch Lain, but since some of the other stuff I'm on is rather heavy, I'd be open to suggestions for lighthearted (but not idiotic) stuff.

Really, stuff like ROD and Mezzo Forte reminds me of why I like anime. Even when they aren't as deep as Miyazaki or Kon, they're incredibly entertaining and beautifully made. Stuff like this is refreshing.

If you have netflix, the Funimation dub is on there. Which is even better.

And if you have a tendency to skip OPs? Don't. This one is incredible.

Some episodes are slightly better than others. Mostly the reason to watch is to see just how overblown they can make an uninteresting and over-complicated game like mahjong.

They already have had dramatic zooms, explosions, and someone turning into an angel for no reason.

Just started Afro Samurai. It's entertaining, but it looks like it might just end up being a gimmick in the end. I wish that everyone sounded as good as Samuel (because the women, for one, all sound like porn stars) and that they'd taken more time with the script.

I'm still moseying around Gantz. And it's strange. I'm torn between it being the greatest show ever and the worst. I love the vulgarity of the script, the plot is pretty interesting, and the pacing of the show is usually very good. BUT! the main guy's obsession with sex is annoying and the length of time that the fights take is insane! I was literally screaming at my TV last night for them to do something! It's reminds me of Naruto. Only instead of moral speeches you just get a bunch of people standing around, arguing. And ever second they are "frozen with fear" which is ridiculous. Once they actually start moving it gets better though. So yeah, we'll see how it ends up.

Finished Baccano. As an anime, this is, to me, a masterpiece from the 2000s the same way Cowboy Bebop was to the 1990s. The characters are unique & the soundtrack is great. I highly recommend this to anyone who hasn't watched it.

That doesn't really make things any more emotional. The characters were pretty much boring and static. For example, when Kyoko died, it was like erasing a stick figure that took two seconds to draw. The same goes for Mami. Madoka Magica is an example of a manipulative ending. By making a character have some moment where he/she becomes a being of a higher existence on the last episode, the fans are going to go crazy for it just because of how they ended it, regardless of the crap-tastic episodes that aired before it.

I'd love to watch anime on actual TV, but in general I loathe dubs, so that means I miss a lot of stuff.

On the other hand, it does force me to budget my time (and money) on the DVDs and streams I actually CAN find, which is definitely a good thing. And I never, never, EVER want to be stuck on a plane with nothing to do but watch "Kekkaishi"'s ****ty dub again. That is pain that no-one deserves to suffer, not even masochists....

Most dub haters are people who watched anime 10 or more years ago when most dubs were kind of **** and anime hadn't caught on yet. When it did companies decided to do things like have quality. Unfortunately this painted dubs as bad for anyone who tried to join the anime community since it was already assumed to be fact.

^^Well, the thing is, I still can't stand a lot of the dubs that are supposedly "good". FullMetal Alchemist's dub is supposed to be one of the best, but it ended up getting on my nerves a lot, and that may be partially why I'm so skeptical of that show (it's a silly reason, but bad tastes take a while to fade).

One problem I do have is that many dubbers, such as Disney, seem unable to deal with pauses in dialogue, so they'll throw in lots of extra lines to "fill" things in, along with new music. They did this with "Laputa", and now that I've seen it in Japanese, I've realized what a mistake that is. One of Miyazaki's underrated strengths is that he knows when to pause and use serene bits to balance the action ( the flying machines and monsters and stuff). In a lot of the dubs, those quiet spaces are always replaced by unnecessary dialogue and extra music (putting music in because "people can't stand silence" is one of my pet peeves...)

I guess American children are two impatient? Even if they're worried about that, pandering is a mistake....

With all that said, the best I have probably seen was probably the one for "Kiki's Delivery Service", which was hilarious (Phil Hartman!). But even for that one, I think I would STILL choose to use subtitles most of the time.

the only peeve i have about the anime dubs are the names. they always get them off... plus, they add the -kun, -san, -chan, etc. suffixes, which really makes it sound awkward. i really wish they would use the English prefixes to substitute for the Japanese suffixes when doing dubs

In Lucky Star every now and then they'll call konata kona-chan.
In Azumanga they call chiyo, chiyo-chan most of the time.
I know Senpai is used in a lot of dubs, such as NHK and OHSHC.
But none of these sound that awkward to me.

The only translation that really bothers me is when they translate oni-chan to big brother.
As heard in Moon Phase as well as NHK.
It just sounds creepy in english.

I watch dubs sometimes and subs sometimes, but on case by case basis.

I just started watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
I think I heard Backmask talking highly of it.
So I checked it out on ANN and read some reviews and it's supposedly a masterpiece.

I wathed the first two episodes yesterday and I have to say, I never watched this kind of anime before.
The music is amazing from what I've heard so far in the show.
And I hope it turns out to be as good as I've read.
101 episodes is a lot.

That doesn't really make things any more emotional. The characters were pretty much boring and static. For example, when Kyoko died, it was like erasing a stick figure that took two seconds to draw. The same goes for Mami. Madoka Magica is an example of a manipulative ending. By making a character have some moment where he/she becomes a being of a higher existence on the last episode, the fans are going to go crazy for it just because of how they ended it, regardless of the crap-tastic episodes that aired before it.

its wasnt that craptastic i was rather intertested in conversations with QB,the fact that hes mother****ingly neutral and the characters were dumb somehow ended in mass wave of hatred towards him.

Same here. I generally prefer dubs, so I don't have to read while watching, but I'm not going to miss out on a good anime just because the english company screwed it up nor will I miss it if there is no dub version.

Side note: Still watching Clannad. I'm also watching the Pokemon movies. Playing through Platinum and Black has kinda put me on a pokemon craze...BUT I'M STILL NOT SPENDING ALL MY MONEY ON POKEMON CARDS!!!


In my boredom I decided to rewatch Clannad...but I can't bring myself to continue beyond episode 15 of After Story...

If Higurashi is anything like Umineko you can count me out. Although Higurashi's art is a lot worse than Umineko's (which was decent, if over-stylized).
