People who like to stay sane. Alright, I actually have a random rant about this:

I have no problem with bad grammar in spoken language. I also fully approve of bad spelling. There are only to constraints to my leniency: the spoken language MUST be moving towards more logical sentence structures, not less logical ones, and the spelling MUST be phonetic. If these constraints are follow, as they usually are (not intentionally in the vast majority of cases, but it's actually irrelevant), then the language is actually moved towards a more complete and logical form, as can be seen in Spanish and French. This mobility in grammar and word meaning is indicative of a living language; a language that is in use and creates more relevant forms of itself through everyday mass abuse of the current form. The only thing that really pisses me off in terms of what can be done to English, or any language, is the number of times when people actually create MORE complex forms and structures for the hell of it or for exclusivity's sake. These groups of people are actually COUNTER productive when the usefulness of the language is considered. I strongly oppose the use of lolcat, l33t, and any of a number of convoluted structures when used as EVERYDAY language.



I think it's becoming more and more obvious why I called myself Useful: I may not actually be useful myself, but I am essentially a moral utilitarian.

You have a point, but it's weak. To have shifts in grammar and usage, there must first be a need, and a widespread one, for the language to change. In the cases you mention, that's not possible. Here&#39;s a random rant. A list of the things that my friend Sam wants to do to my brother if ever he gets the chance. (My brother didn&#39;t do anything to him, he just really really dislikes him.)

- Give him a cat, which he is to love dearly.
- Tie him in a soundproof basement and point lamps into his eyes.
- Smash his kneecaps repeatedly with a hammer and then tear them out with his bare fingers.
- Cut his Achilles tenants.
- Stab him multiple times in multiple places (just general stabbing).
(Bear in mind that by this time, Sam will have covertly trained the cat to fulfill his plans.)
- Cut off his arms and feed them to the cherished cat, watching him and his torment with glee.
- Cut open his stomach so that his bowels are extricated, let the cat then feast on those, and then break his windpipe if he hasn&#39;t died already.

I had my mp3 player on "record" one time and he decided to go on that particular tirade. It made me laugh, I think I still have it. :D

Well today was the last day of school

Sorry to break up the subject, but I had to share this...

So me and my friend decided to go out to Books-a-Million about 2-3 hours ago on our bikes. We finally get there, get what we came for, and leave with a giant dictionary of a manga hardback, "Battle Royale: Ultimate Edition" v1. Successful book store run, in my opinion. Thankfully the damn thing was in a bag, so it wasn&#39;t hard to cart back to home base. On the way home, we stop at a convenience store as we are running pretty low on things to drink. We walk in talking about what we should get, and the store clerk pipes up and explains to us that the 12 packs are on sale, 2 cases for $5. We light up at this idea, wanting to be as stingy as possible, and leave the store. Note that we are still on bikes, and our destination is about a quarter of a mile away... Haha... Being geniuses and all, we start riding off, at 9:30 at night, hanging onto these big cases of sodas.... When one of the cokes fall and the box bursts open releasing its soda&#39;ee goodness all over the adjacent road... The cans start rolling to the middle of the street... And a ****ing truck runs over them. My friend, sitting there on the side of the road, was staring at one in particular and watched it as if in slow-motion as the truck hit it. At this point I&#39;m laughing my ass off while trying to chug a soda and stuff the remaining ones into my pockets -- all on the side of the road...

So I&#39;ve had a helluva night, how&#39;re you guys doin&#39;?
