Played a little Gradius in Boshy, if that counts. Played a few games at arcade cabinets or on console when I was younger, but nothing too serious. I don't plan on playing many other shmps till I'm happy with where I am in Touhou, mainly because so much memorization is involved with the genre and I can barely remember the games I've played >100 times.
I prefer the bullet-hell variety with multiple movement speeds/mechanics/resources over the older easier to read, but worse controls games.

Only beat Contra 3 on 'Hard' once.
I still can't beat Contra III on Easy mode with 7 lives, let alone Hard mode. Contra III is technically a Run-and-gun (R&G) though, not a shmup. That said, many people tend to lump R&Gs together with shmups, and for good reason: both genres feature extremely intense and difficult gameplay that is also simplistic and short at the same time ("short" is relative: Most shmups/R&Gs can be beaten in an hour, but it may take many months, sometimes years, to get good enough to beat them)

The only bullet hell game I played was Castle of Shikigami III, and I wasn't too impressed by it. Perhaps I should branch out and try Touhou or a Cave shmup to get a better opinion on bullet-hell shooters, but I just can't get used to the concept of having a 1-pixel hitbox in the entire player sprite. Combined with the excessive number of bullets, I don't really know how to dodge properly; it's just too much. Having hitboxes that are roughly the size of the player sprite just seems more natural to me.

I do agree with you on shooters that allow you to change your speed on-the-fly as opposed to shooters that require power-ups to increase your speed. The latter can be very annoying if dying in the shmup in question causes all of your power-ups to be lost, including speed-ups (Gradius and R-Type are especially infamous for this), but being able to recover from those situations are all the more rewarding because of it.

Just picked up the Mass Effect trilogy for $10 recently. Figured I'd give them a go after never having played KOTOR (or any other Bioware title, for that matter) and I'm enjoying the experience for the most part. I'm not a huge fan of moral choice games, but after 30 some hours in ME I've leveled high enough in one to not sweat opposing decisions every now and then. Though, I feel like I'm missing out because I don't use any of the squad/power based **** at all. I've gotten by with a pistol and shotgun (Vanguard) without any real trouble.

Also, holy **** is there a lot of dialogue and text. I can't scan a room without adding a tombs worth of **** to my codec. It might be great ****, too. Wouldn't know. Can't bring myself to read entire books worth of **** when I'm supposed to be playing a vidya game. I'm at the point now where I have to choose a squad member to die and thus be absent from the next two games, supposedly and I'm actually torn up about what to do.

It's human nature to fear, then hate what we don't understand, the thing is whatever initial problems we had with exnophobia should have got solved prior to the games via the first contact war with the turians. In real world application, I would hope a situation such as what you describe became inefficient via technological advancement. That, and I'm sure they would provide accommodations for er..."Gorbuuk" so things such as that doesn't occur anyway.

I liked the boss that looked like a dinosaur, it kinda looked like it was sucking you in, along with some debris you had to dodge, while it shot at you. I don't really like gimmicks that change your controls, but dodging bullets from both sides is always interesting.
The Touhou powerup system is very bland, there is only one game that really punishes you for dying, but I prefer it that way; I hate dying right before a really hard part and making it that much harder because you will not have full power/full options. Always having full analog speed also makes it so you never get stuck being to slow/fast to dodge a pattern.

It's because it's the final boss in a Gradius game. Gradius ALWAYS has final bosses that are complete pushovers. It's as much of a Gradius tradition as having an Easter-Island-Moai-Head-themed level somewhere in the game. The other bosses can be quite difficult if you lose your powerups, but the final boss can be taken out easily with zero powerups. Heck, it's even self-destruct for you if you're take too long!

I'm well aware of that. A very large reason why I bought the PC version in the first place. I wanted the updates, and consoles weren't/aren't getting any. Kinda sucks, but it doesn't upset me to the point where I feel like it warrants a wall-of-text rant. Not like I actually payed for the PS3 version, anyway (free for PS+ awhile back)

I'm also aware that the game has more-or-less become more DLC than game now. I also don't care a whole lot, to be honest. The game (and it's DLC) goes on sale so often, it's not all that expensive unless you're too impatient to wait a month or two. Plus, I'm having so much fun with this game, what little money I'm spending on it is MORE than worthwhile. Plus, to me, the base game is worth the $20 (off-sale) pricetag. I mean....the console versions are basically just the base game with one or two updates, and I enjoyed it for 150+ hours.

As for the pay2win thing....I don't care much about that, either. I'm mostly playing solo, going online ONLY when playing with Lyte. I don't give a flying **** if I'm "weaker" than everyone else for not buying those latest weapon DLC packs or w/e. I'm not playing against others, and this game is meant to be CO-OP anyway, so competitiveness really defeats the purpose of playing. Even if you get 10 bags of gold and I only get 2 bags of coke, we both still get the SAME EXACT AMOUNT credited to our respective offshore accounts.

If someone doesn't want to play for fun, then I'll simply use my host kick privileges and move on with life. Simple. Some crybabies like to whine about it, but not me. I kick and move on, no harm no foul. If the competitive player wants to whine about it....then they can suffer alone while I move on regardless.

Not sure what you mean by "grind2live" (never seen/heard anyone else use that term before), but the game doesn't feel real grindy to me. Then again I play the levels that I'll enjoy as opposed to whichever will give me the most loot and/or exp in the shortest timeframe. Even playing for fun, I still get plenty of exp and loot. Maybe not as much as those "hardcore" heisters or w/e...but again, I'm playing for fun, not stats.

Whatever you say. I did showing the news about video games. I just watching the gaming news on every good channels except Machinima including Inside Gaming which they are bull**** as other worst gaming websites. The ScrewAttack's Hard News is ended before 2015. So I just played Battlefield Hardline which is okay for me. I'm waiting for Star Wars: Battlefront (PS4) to come out in Q4 2015.

Holy ****. I'm about 20 hours in to Mass Effect 2 and it feels like an entirely different game from ME 1. No grenades? No individual medigel, but only when I unity which i can only do when a teammate dies? No more weapons collection? No more omnigel to open failed hacking jobs? There's ****ing ammo now? I can't spend individual upgrade points, rather have to do it in class tiers? So Miranda gets some tight ass outfit to wear, but all Femshep gets is some frumpy half dress with pants underneath thing? What's with this buying fuel to fly between systems ****? Finished playing X-Blades today.

It's.....playable. Not much else to say, really. Game wasn't bland enough to bore me to tears, but it was definitely bland enough to make me glad I bought it on-sale years past release. Hilariously, they just recently released Steam trading cards for it. Not sure why they bothered, but I laughed when I saw the news.

Overall, I wouldn't really recommend a purchase unless .jpeg's and animated .gif's just aren't enough for you. And even then......at least wait for a sale.

That being said, I do like what I've played in the free weekend game (ARMA III). It's frustratingly hard, sure, but it's still pretty fun once you get used to it.

I like how the game actually FORCES you to realize it's not Call of Duty or Battlefield. Not paying any attention whatsoever to enemy grenades, relying instead on the on-screen grenade indicator? You probably didn't deserve those legs anyway. Not hiding behind cover? At least squirrels can hide their acorns in those bullet holes. Didn't bother to look for medical supplies before heading to battle? There's probably hospitals in the afterlife anyway, so you should be fine!

And this is all on the easiest difficulty setting. 12-year olds probably hate this game....and that's why I love it :D

Have any of you ever played Eve Online? It's an mmo mostly played by adults. The worst sorts of behavior a human being can possibly display are commonplace in it. Lying, theft, assault, and extortion are even encouraged by how the game works. So anyway. I'll buy Batman: Arkham Knight on PS4, Final Fantasy XV on PS4, and Call of Duty: Black Ops III on PS4. Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the next Advanced Warfare rather the pseudo-sequel due to future war-theme and sci-fi style similar to Titanfall. Activision confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops III will have zombie which is similar to Exo Zombie from Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare DLC, but only in come with Call of Duty: Black Ops III (thanks Treyach) and adding more DLCs. I haven't played Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare for first time, but I will try it out.

I've been playing Splatoon, it's a fun game and the online mode is better than expected, but the amiibo to get the extra content are hard to get so I'm not sure if paying 30 squid is worth it.
As far I'm aware each figure gives you one new costume and 5 new missions.

While this all may be an incredibly elaborate hoax, (some of the screenshots are pointed out to look a lot like BB's Yharnam) I will hold out hope, now that there is some meat to the rumor. A lot of the new features sound like they could shake up the game play meta a bit. There is mention of returning characters and enemies from past games (although that could be just a Drake or Belfry Gargoyle, although it would be VERY interesting to see what is meant by that, encountering an old boss from DS 1 or 2 would be refreshing, especially those optional bosses whose fates were left vague (Ancient Dragon and Crossbreed Priscilla, Quelann would be a treat as well, namely)) now there has been voiced concern that Sony might turn DS into Assassin's Creed territory with them dishing out a Souls-like game every year, but with the rumor of Miyazaki at the helm of DS3 this may have some promise. I actually enjoyed DSII but will admit the level design and story and characters were severely lacking whereas the PvP (all covenants contributed SOMETHING to the gameplay experience as opposed to DS1's superfluous covenants) and DLC areas were pretty damn good (Ivory King fight was fun, pure and simple) so I only hope DS3 will have the strong PvP of DS2 and the strong story/characters/level design of DS1 and BB.

My response was also in general, really. If I wanted to buy a football game today, I wouldn't go for 15 (or hold out for 16, for that matter). I'd go for whichever one is the best out of all the old ones that are $15, max. Online and updated rosters are just as unimportant to me in football as they are in WWE or any other sport/"sport".

I actually did already own WWE 2k15 on the PS4 before, so I know about what to expect on the PC. The main reason I traded in my PS4 copy to buy it on PC is because the PC version comes will all the DLC included.

That, and the possibility of mods. If mods are going to exist at all in WWE games, they'll exist on the PC versions. I read in one of the Steam reviews that there are already mods for the newer entrances...but I'm not sure how true that is. Reviews alone aren't exactly super-reputable sources of information, after all.... I'll probably wait a few months or so before trying out any mods anyway, so I've got plenty of time to do some real, actual research on the matter.

I was meh about F4, but seeing all of what Bethesda has added onto it, **** it I'm now hype. Dark Souls 3 trailer also has me hype, why the **** is the Giant Lord featured? Is it a pre-DS2 prequel? A direct DSII sequel post-Aldia ending? Or some time convolution bull****? I'm now VERY curious to see what other characters and/or bosses from past games are returning initial rumor release said 15 new bosses which is a little low for a Souls game, so I imagine there will be quite a lot of returning bosses and characters (like the inevitable Belfry Gargoyles) coming back to fill in the boss variety gap. Although who and from where all depends on the games context and timeframe.

The funny thing is that is isn't even that great, the gameplay is still this bull**** MMORPG x Monster Hunter-lite hybrid that is ****ing terrible unless you really, really ****ing enjoy that kind of gameplay. Top that **** off with ****ing an annoying lock-on system that enjoys locking onto everything that ****ing isn't what you want to lock-on to. As for the quests? Enjoy playing either hide and seek or the ****ing waiting game to actually ****ing start the damn things. The required NPCs are ****ing scattered across these big as **** areas that you have to ****ing wander around until you find them. Can't find them? That's probably because they only show up during certain hours, which ****ing nobody ever tells you.
Hope the sequel fixes the ****ing combat system

Taro has said that it will be an independent story, but to what degree the story is independent isn't really known.
Though, if I'm not mistaken, after every ending, the Replicants are still going to permanently die off from the Black Scrawl, right? If it is placed in the same continuity, I think it would be interesting to see that touched upon.

I've been there before. It really sucks when someone messes up your hold of the splatzone(s) after dominating the entire match. Players need to learn to stay the hell out of it if you ask me. Very few situations call for you to be anywhere near it.

Pissed off about splatfest being delayed. That time I spent upgrading that dog shirt was such a waste.

I'll level with you - in its launch state, splatoon wasn't a 30$ game. Now, we are just starting to see the game's potential with nintendo feeding us weekly updates. (that prove the game wasn't half finished at the time) The whole "splatfest being delayed" is just more evidence. Speaking of which - leave it to nintendo to host a gaming event on the ****ing 4th of July for americans.

Regarding Arkham knight - so much for the master race. People are losing their **** over the performance issues of the pc version. Also, people bashed the hell out of origins, but from my experience with the wii u port of the game, I didn't encounter anything that damming besides it hard crashing on me once, and combat not feeling as good as arkham city. (even though i could use pro controller) Take that as you will.

$30? I thought it was $60....

And regardless, is it not best to buy an online-centric game whilst the community is still.....you know.....alive? Unless Nintendo is planning MAJOR improvements for the single player, it's really not a good idea to wait years after release before buying a used copy at Gamestop. Not unless you take advantage of the 7-day return policy and "rent" it.

In fact, I thought it was clear when I added that the game is just starting to see its potential with them giving us weekly updates. Sorry, I wasn't trying to imply that you were saying that. I was more referring to the reality of my financial situation. Unless I sell my PS4 for a WiiU, it's unlikely I'll be able to afford it for at least 3 or 4 years.

I'm actually strongly considering doing so, too. I mostly bought the PS4 for Disgaea 5. Which A. doesn't release until October 6 and B. is a game that doesn't really rely on online play at all. A purchase 3-4 years from now will be just as good as a purchase day 1 (if not better, considering the cheaper price and the DLC/patches will have all been released by then).

As it stands now I barely even plug my PS4 in, let alone turn it on and play games. I do have Akiba's Trip on it currently, but I'm it's not exactly a super-high priority to get through that game ASAP. I can wait until I have another PS4.....or just torrent the PC port or w/e if I get impatient.

Apart from Splatoon, WiiU also has Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Wind Waker HD (never played it on Gamecube....although I could emulate it pretty easily), and a few other smaller-name games that I want. All currently released and ready to play immediately upon me acquiring the finances to purchase them. There's probably even some eshop games I might like to add to the list. Much bigger library of games personally relevant to me than the PS4 atm. As long as the base game is worth the money by itself, I have no issue buying it despite the DLC prices. I don't really subscribe to that whole "complete experience" mentality gamers seem to have with DLC. The DLC prices do deter me from wanting to buy said DLC, though.

Bethesda put out a mobile-only base-building game very similar to the base building aspect of XCOM in the Fallout world.



Simply put, you are the overseer of a brand new Vault. You start off with a few free Dwellers from the wasteland, abd begin putting down new sections of Vault to produce food, power, and water, as well as items like stimpacks and RadAways. You can send your Dwellers out into the wastes to bring back weapons and armor to defend against raiders and radroach infestations.



The art is great, you do not need to be online to play it, it is totally free with the ability to buy extra stuff in the form of Lunchboxes (totally unnecessary, and you can get lunchboxes free by accomplishing random challenges that refresh every time you succeed at one. It is ironic that I just now had the first major bug I've seen in the many hours since I started playing.

Currently playing Total War Shogun 2 as I just figured out where my strategic faults lay my last few failures and thus am progressively getting better, "Realm Divide" keeps screwing me over, though. Last game had Shimazu (who converted to Christianity) skip around my front and hit me with a black ship escorted army into my undefended territories. Game before that had my long time allies the Takeda betray me as I was suddenly ****ed by a three way of Amako, Takeda and Hatekeyama. The RTS element I've gotten down to a science but I'm still struggling with learning naval warfare and long time army management on the turn-based side of things.

That said, Lego Jurassic World was a lot of good ole' fashion nostalgic fun with a lot of silly and charming humor involved, makes ya feel like a kid again.

Also been looking into ARK: Survival Evolved, usually loath 'crafting survival games' but Ark's theme, rapid updates, Dossiers and large variety of creatures makes my inner dino-nerd run wild. Have it purchased, but I'm waiting until more content and bugs get fixed on it before I dive in. Already more complete than most other survival games in early access and its going to actually be finished to boot. So It has my interest on the aesthetic front so far.

Well i **** load basically 150+ roughly that are actually installed another 200 +/- that i have collected over the years which are in a backup folder. But the stuff that is worth mentioning:

ENB: Enhanced Shaders for FNV

Gameplay: Project Nevada with Ultimate Mojave project and various compatibility patches and a **** load of other stuff, armour, weapons, enemies, etc

Weather: Nevada Skies

Textures: NMC's Texture Pack, Weapon Retexture Project,

And basically a **** load of other stuff

Currently playing Avatar mode in Total War Shogun multiplayer, really fun. Matchmaking needs work and Its frustrating I can't leave a lobby before a match because the dude I'm facing is either way above my character level (like ten star GOLD) (and thus has tons of promotions giving him a distinct advantage) or other issues that make you want to leave lobbies (like facing the same guy over and over again)

Getting me to seriously love using Gozen's Hime Heroines and Warrior Nuns, though, wish I can more easily attain them in Campaign though as by the time I field them I'm already Shogun or I've already technically won the campaign. With a cap of 5000 koku (thus small armies) my personalized Naginata Heroines and Nuns keep snatching victory from the jaws of defeat for me, even against Fall of the Samurai armies. Gotta love me some spear units, dicks over Calvary and Bow, and with some bow and calvary of my own, Katana users are easy. (Destroying machine guns with Naginata is an amazing feeling let me tell you)

To be fair....they weren't less popular by much. The results being almost 50/50, there wasn't much of a hurdle to overcome.

Still gives more hope to future underdogs, though. Even the thing with the last splatfest. The cats still lost, but they came damn near close with a MUCH larger obstacle to overcome. Just a little bit more experience among them, and they probably would've taken it in the end.

BX already has a really underwhelming and boring cast. I guess the only logical conclusion was to complement that cast with equally underwhelming OGs. I will not be surprised (****, I'm practically expecting this) if these OGs are end up just being the second coming Ichitaka and AL-3.

yeah ds2 was pretty easy. lets just say they are both at the same level of easy. cheap ass boss, no big penalty when dying and op items that can stack.
maybe what make bloodborne hard is the lower chalice dungeon level

It's different for Japan as well. Each region gets it's own splatfest themes.

Makes sense sometimes, too. I remember some of Japan's themes including things like curry and the like, something that isn't as popular in the US or EU regions. Eat vs Sleep is kind of a stupid theme to keep region-specific, though. I mean......doesn't every culture including eating and sleeping?

Not 100% sure what you mean, but if you're talking about NA players playing on JP servers (for example).....that has nothing to do with the Splatfest themes being on certain regional servers.

It's not that difficult for them to put NA themes on the NA server and JP themes on the JP server. Not sure what they do about region-locking players (haven't bothered to care), but if there's nothing blocking you from entering another region's servers, there's nothing blocking you from participating in their themes. Doesn't mean it'll be the same theme on YOUR region's server, though.

Oh don't expect it to be any different here. Every country pretty much has their own blatant masturbation media. That's.......not surprising at all. Any online game with a lobby/room/whatever will have issues like this. One person has a bad ping/connection, everyone else lags with them. Splatoon isn't even CLOSE to being the first time this has ever happened. Games like CoD have been experiencing this sort of thing pretty much ever since they were a thing that existed.

It's not just shooters, either. Smash bros. will have this issue. Mario Kart will have this issue. Pretty much if it's a lobby or w/e that multiple players have to connect to in order to play with each other, everyone's connection will affect everyone else. MMO's are about the only exception, and even then if you participate in an instance raid or something.....

Yup. Physical location plays a MAJOR role in connection when you're trying to play on a server located more than an ocean away from you. Not so much if it's literally one city over.

I picked up MGS TPP for ps3, It's a pretty good game. from what I've played so far.
Wasn't keen on the prologue took way to long to get going and the most of the cutscenes feel like found camera footage, it feels more like you're watching snake rather than you are snake, Especially the cutscenes with rain or sand on the camera lens.

Well, as much as my word can offer (which is, not much), there really isn't too much "movie" in Phantom Pain. A lot of the plot important dialogue is stuck in cassette tapes. Everything else may as well be a monologue because Snake rarely ever talks in the sparse cutscenes.
